With THE LAST PIECE coming to a close and new members joining the BMSG Family as Trainees, Real Sound Music began a long interview series with all disclosed BMSG Trainees leading up to the BMSG Trainee Showcase 2026.

- Yuyu had to change his photo ID on his healthcare card
- Yuyu’s birthday happened after the House of Councillors Elections (July 20), so Yuyu hasn’t had a chance to experience being an “adult” yet
Yuyu’s earliest memory was a rather tragic one 😂 There are a lot of small magnets in the Matsuzawa household, when Yuyu was 4, he swallowed one of them by accident. It was 2 am so his family rushed him to the ER. He remembers his face being squished so a camera could be shoved into his mouth (and that was his first ever endoscopy)
- In the end, the doctors couldn’t find the magnet. They did several tests on him and took X-rays too – they couldn’t find the magnet. They wonder if Yuyu had digested it.
Yuyu’s older brother really likes Michael Jackson’s “Smooth Criminal” and played it a lot on TV (and a lot of other Michael Jackson MVs and performances). Since it played constantly, Yuyu started copying him. Yuyu didn’t really know who Michael Jackson was or how famous he was, he started dancing because he thought it was cool.
Yuyu remembers writing “architect” in the school yearbook, though he’s not sure why. He has always loved making and building things though, even now he still enjoys 3D modeling and making songs. He’s always loved making things so maybe that’s why he wrote “architect”
He also loves LEGOs, he’s built a lot of things with LEGOs too – a small town, it was like Sims City almost.
At the dance school, Michael Jackson was trending in the dance scene so Yuyu only attended classes that specifically taught Michael Jackson routines. Yuyu got hooked on KPop and BTS next – this slowly built Yuyu’s fascination with expressing himself through song and dance. Then he was hooked on animation and he was drawn back to Michael Jackson again

Yuyu started learning animation in 3rd Grade. His dance teacher at the time took him to world championships and provided him with various sorts of experiences. He studied with this teacher until 8th Grade.
Yuyu started learning jazz dancing in 8th Grade, he tried it out through a friend and got really into it.
Before Yuyu knew it, he had covered all genres 😂 All of this led to Yuyu’s current style
Yuyu really likes dance, what he likes about it isn’t so much moving his body and more of his body riding and flowing with the music
Yuyu applied and became a BMSG Trainee due to his experience in dance, he competed in various contests and took part in a lot of jobs. But he also applied because he admires Michael Jackson, and his desire to create something grew stronger – “I want to make music my main job”
- Yuyu applied during the winter break of his final year of junior high and his first year of high school. An acquaintance of his told him about it so he auditioned
Once he was a part of BMSG Trainees, he feels like he has honed his skills and senses; even how he is as a person has grown.
Yuyu considers himself rather eccentric and malleable. He thinks whatever he likes in music ties directly to the kind of things he wants to express. Whether in dance or music, he’s had quite the journey, so when he looks back on his experience he realizes he’s been searching for ways to express himself in all sorts of directions. He believes that’s his strength; he’s not one-dimensional and he doesn’t fit into any mold. He thinks he doesn’t have a mold at all – when he dances he doesn’t stick to one genre or style, he just goes with the flow and vibe of the music playing at that particular moment.
- Reaching this feeling is a rather recent thing though. Yuyu’s had moments before this where he hated dancing or hated music, even when he had joined BMSG Trainees. After going through TLP, his perspective and gears shifted and turned up various notches. The quality in how he expresses himself through music, dance and singing has increased, and he feels like his worldview has expanded tremendously so he’s really grateful for his experience in TLP.
Yuyu’s saddest memory in TLP was realizing he could not be with STARGLOW as often anymore. Rather than being frustrated, he was more sad in the Final Screening, “Oh, we can’t do things together anymore…” His most frustrated moment was in the 6th Round performing “Secret Garden.” He was still sick so he wasn’t in his best condition physically. Even during rehearsal he wasn’t feeling well so he knew he couldn’t give it his all. Seeing himself fall short and not being able to show his full potential in front BE:FIRST is what makes him frustrated every time he looks back on the footage, “I could’ve done a lot better.”
- Yuyu didn’t really enjoy music or dancing around this period of TLP. He was more focused on how to cover up how unwell he was feeling. He wished he had let himself go and surrendered himself to the music without overthinking it, so even now when he looks back on it, he is exasperated with himself.
Yuyu’s happiest TLP memory was when the 10 of them spent time together in the dorms leading up to the Final Screening. Although he grew closer with everyone in the earlier rounds, there were a lot more people. He felt like with the Top 10 he was able to get to know each of them more deeply. Yuyu grew closer with KANON, they got to go to the public bath house together, that was really fun.
- There were many moments Yuyu found rewarding. The 10-day training camp was incredibly intense, really sharp highs and really lows. Everyone was aiming for the same dream, but they weren't enemies and more of, “Let's all debut together!” That vibe was genuinely warm and made it a very comfortable place to be. When Yuyu looks back on photos on his phone even now, it still genuinely makes him a little teary-eyed 🥹 Yuyu thinks it became a great experience and a wonderful memory.
The friendships he built with the TLP boyos and the dreams he had during TLP haven’t changed. Only that the time he spent in TLP has helped those dreams and his perspectives expand – to broaden his possibilities and see new opportunities. It wasn’t like a “Where should I go next?” and more that the path to his destination became clearer. The way he is able to visualize “I want to do it this way,” or “I want to try that too,” is thanks to his experience in TLP and the interactions he had with everyone
- First on the list, he wants to make a song – not the melody, but the beats. He wants to release lots of songs that aren’t really genres found in Japan.
- He also wants to explore and experiment with vocal styles that he hasn’t really used much. At the moment he is trying to be better at rap
- Yuyu’s a huge fan of Southern hiphop from Atlanta, he likes Miami too, so he wants to capture that vibe in his music
- Yuyu hasn’t been making 3D models much lately, but he hopes when he gets back into it they could be used in music videos
- Yuyu spends a lot of time thinking about: if he adds choreo to this song, then the song will be like x, the MV will be like y, so he will need a certain kind of camera to shoot the footage he wants… etc etc
Yuyu also mentions Tyler The Creator again (and Travis Scott), that he wants to be an artist like him that shows his worldview / universe through his music.
