Novel Core – NWMI "How's it going 2.0" (2024.07.19)
Novel Core appeared on Ninja We Made It (NWMI)'s car ride series, "How's it going 2.0" on July 19, 2024.
Core dropped a lot of background and trivia about himself during the ride, so a summary below!
You can watch the video here
Core knew about them and like them a lot. He also watches their YT stuff! But they only really "met met" round the end of last year during bounenkai. Core held a big party with Yuki (from Local Campione). They had no idea how many would show up on the day after LINE-ing and calling all their friends to come LMAO 😂 But Ninja We Made It all showed up and they talked ☺️
- Being the conductor for his middle school choir contest (he wanted to stand out :core_uwu: ✨ ). He was also the one conducting the cheering teams (? I think? He mentioned being in the middle among a group of bad boys 😂 )
- He was a conductor for the choir all throughout middle school (he mentioned year 1, 2, 3) and he wanted to pursue this dream. He also thought it was interesting that the faces of the choir changes depending on how he (the conductor) moved or acted.
- The teacher advisor for the choir changed in his second year of middle school. This teacher really liked music, but told Core they didn't need a conductor that "took note of the rhythm" (with his hands) so much 😔 And actually had Core use only his facial expressions and body to "take note of the rhythm" (the teacher said he wasn't allowed to use his hands). Core thought this was super interesting and actually wanted to be a conductor because of this.
- He wanted to be a conductor for an orchestra and actually studied for it. He thought about going to a music college as well, but he didn't have the IQ (😩) or the money 🥲 . A conductor also had to know all musical instruments well so he thought it was impssible, so he decided to give up 😭
- The moment he thought of giving up, he came across a hiphop track on YT. 💡 He doesn't need lots of instruments, and with rap it's not like you need to know a lot ( 😂 ). You can also do it anytime, so he thought it was super interesting.
- two Ninja We Made It members also started as conductors 😮
- I AM THE (he visualized, wrote it and did it as the very first song he performs in Budokan. He wrote quite seriously about his life and there's no chorus. He likes how it turned out, he said what he wanted to say, and it's pretty complete / perfect in his opinion.)
- the recording was done in one take! 👆 ❗ 5 minutes 🔥
- done the day before Budokan, so he was worried he'll forget the lyrics 😰 and bruh, this is the first song i'm doing at budokan feeling and mess up big time 😂
- Kendrick Lamar (his lyric writing. Core sees him as kind of like a king, teacher, and someone who leads the way. He listened to Kendrick a lot when he started delving into rap)
- J. Cole
- LOGIC
In Japan:
- King Giddra
Recent songs he likes
I'm Good Luv, Enjoy / Aaron May
Core listens to about 200 songs on Spotify in a day (and that's how he came across Aaron May's song). He makes sure he's listening to music at all times so he will input [listen] to a lot of songs. If he likes it he'll "like" it 🤣
Note: Some of this he has mentioned in other interviews
- The flow of his setlist; the link between song a with song b. For the latter, he feels like that is very imPUtant in hip-hop. Although what he's doing now isn't limited to hip-hop, as someone who became an artist because of hip-hop, he wants to respect this manner of hip-hop in his lives and performances.
- He produces / comes up with his stages on his own (how many the stage(s) / set(s) he wants to have; the lighting; the staging+props on stage, everything. He includes directions too)
he doesn't think there are a lot of rappers in Japan who do this, but he says artists overseas think of the staging themselves (he brings up Kendrick).
- during a time when he didn't get a lot of live gigs, he studied a lot about lighting 💡. So if he wants specific kinds of lights, he is able to give the lighting staff-san the machine / the specific name of the lights he wants 😤
- 3 years ago, he said he's going to stand on Budokan. After he set that goal and announced it, he wondered what he can give / contribute to the hip hop scene. He first started by appearing in MC battles; then got picked up by Zeebra when he was 16 and was taken care of by a lot of the rappers there -- it's also with Zeebra's company he started his activities as a rapper. But he's aware his roots aren't specifically rooted in the genre of hip-hop. He thought it would be pretty disrespectful of him to say out loud "ah i can only do hip-hop!" when others around him have only done hip-hop. So he thought until he stands on Budokan, he's gonna listen to various genres of music as much as he can -- through seeing / working in other scenes and activities; see what the outside world is like, etc. and give back to the hip-hop scene all that he has learned+absorbed. Now that he's stood on Budokan, he's Back on the scene. This year and the next he's going to focus more of his activities to hip-hop.
- He's also made about 4 songs with Chaki Zulu.
- Naoto Inti Raymi (they did a song together)
- Novelbright (did a song together; also appeared in a fes together)
Aile The Shota (pretty much with him everyday. They're together 5 days out of a week) “Shinyuu nansu yo!”
- Core is super nocturnal. He rarely sleeps; is a short sleeper (Google says it's SSS, short sleeper syndrome). He can function with just 1 hour of sleep.
A day in a life with Core:
- Start the day at 9am for example. Finish at 5
- Go home or go to a friend's studio
- If go to a friend's studio: make or record songs for a long time, usually until 1 am or 2 am. If it's quick, he can get home at 11:30 pm. If not, then 1am / 2am
Aerobics time
- Sauna / shower after exercise and by then he realises it's 4am 😂
- Fiddle around, do more things until 5am / 6am
- Sleep 💤 for 1-2 hours and wake up again at 7 or 8 am 🌅
- off to work! Repeat schedule! 😂
- Core does not cook. He sucks at making his own meals. (so he musta been super proud his mama said his kimchi was good)
“this is an LV necklace btw”
costed him this much: 555,550 yen
The last of LV Virgil Abloh's collection; only 12 x 12 of its kind were sold in the world
12 necklaces to 12 different cities. In Tokyo, Japan, he got necklace number 7️⃣
he doesn't use 💳 so he often buys these things in cash. [Taro....................... 😭 😩 😱 ]
- items by PROLETA RE ART 🧐
- before meeting with Ninja We Made It for the shoot, he ordered a chain (GRILLZ JEWELZ)
- He also thinks his fashion (sense) has changed a little bit after Budokan. He wants to dress very simply and be a guy that looks cool without too much accessories [or bling bling]. He does think getting himself a chain (necklace?) is nice.
- He got a chain necklace that's got his logo (NC) with diamonds on it from sky-hi papa
😈 : gachi no bling bling
- Core says he got it because boss mentioned in the lyrics of a remix “I gave Core a 200m (JP yen) ice cream”
- so papa sky-hi actually did just that (but what he gave was the chain) 😂
Wearing the whole thing will mean he gets hit by it a lot, so usually he just wears the chain (without the NC)
- but he is thinking of making a chain using MIAMI CUBAN diamonds....? (I think lol)
- this one from a fes at Yokohama
(the jacket is custom made.. and a Harley jacket?)
- oh and the pants he's wearing, he likes as well NO / FAITH studios
Core only has 5 seconds to answer them all
The most expensive item he's got
😈 : Jacket from Rick Owens
What would you be other than a rapper?
😈 : zookeeper
What does core really suck / no good at?
😈 : Scary people
Fave anime?
😈 : Gintama
Perfume he uses?
😈 : TACTICS
Something he's into recently?
😈 : Aerobics menus (routines???) on TikTok
Gyaru or neat+tidy?
😈 : Neat and tidy 😆
His fave spot at home?
😈 : The toilet 🚽
Motto
😈 : Don't get negative, but stay calm 👍
Message for viewers!
😈 : I love everyone! Kyun desu! ❣️
1. He thinks it's not the Rick Owen's jacket actually but is definitely clothing of some sort. Rather than 1 item he thinks it was more the most he spent in a day. 🤔 (and the most he spent in a day was 2.5 Million (JP yen)................................... 😀 )
2. The zookeeper answer isn't random, he does own three cats (names: Kotetsu, Yamato, Akubi. Source: the wiki lol), so he wants some gigs related to animals! (NWMI: I thought you'd say conductor 😈 : I think it's enough honestly 😂 )
3. He's not good with people who are intimidating, they scare him. There are people who "look" initimidating but once you talk to them they're kind people, then he's fine. It's those that look intimidating and it's hard to keep the conversation going that are the people he isn't good with. He was socially awkward (had trouble communicating コミュ症 komyuu shou i only remember this cuz i was putting the English to TYPE recently lol) before.
4. He likes manga / anime from his sis (thank you momona), so there's a lot of manga and anime at home. So he likes Gintama a lot! He was super hyped he was doing the OP for Kingdom (RULERS!).
5. He changes what he uses often. He used to use DIOR's SAVAGE, Chanel's Chance, Maison Margiela's REPLICA, Under the Lemon Tree. But he had a time where he didn't like the smell of perfume so he used a bottle of TACTICS that his mom left in the house. The scent is kinda musky (?? Any perfume users here lol) and women use it too
6. If it's on tiktok he can put on his headphones and have those 1 min TikTok sets play on loop. Once he remembers the moves, it's easy for him to do the exercises by keeping tab of the timer / counter before the next move starts so he finds it easy for him to stay motivated (and keep doing it lol).
8. Toilet 🚽 yup. He finds himself in there the most. Even after he's done, he'll be in there using his phone. He's been thinking of moving, but he realises he has too. much. clothes. He feels like his room is swamped with them. This isn't right, you know. 😂
9. His motto isn't what someone said to him, he came up with it on his own. He doesn't want to be pessimistic, no matter the situation or circumstance and wants to stay optimistic -- no matter when it comes to making music or dealing with people. He doesn't want to spend time focusing on the reason why "something doesn't work / can't be done", and “focus on looking for __reasons why something **can / should** be done__ and look for routes to success. At the same time though, if you go too far on vibes and the beauty of that, you may have an accident or you cause trouble for others because you weren't looking around you. I'd feel sorry about that, so that's why I don't want to forget to stay calm / logical.”
NJWMI: We skipped gyaru or neat+tidy [question 7] btw 😂
😈: I definitely want things I don’t have 😆
😈: I like people who are serious. I don’t like people who are kinda nonchalant, play about, and flutter around everywhere. So I like people who are earnest and straightforward
Q: Someone 😈 wants to do a MC battle with
😈: I can’t think of anyone…. Red Eye 😤 But rather than me wanting to do it, more like people want to see it. I respect Red Eye a lot and we were in BAZOOKA! High School Rap Championship together (11th and 12th). We both have one win and one loss. (Their 1 loss was when the other won first place!) It would’ve been a while for both of us on a stage together, so people might want to see us. Since it would’ve been a while, I wanna answer everyone’s expectations so Red Eye.
Q: Where should I take my crush (who doesn’t like me back)?
😈: Ohhh, relationship advice… if it’s a girl asking a guy… Assuming they chat / talk, then maybe somewhere they can find something both of them like. Find topics of conversation, and close the distance. If he likes animals, then maybe go to an animal cafe… So a place / environment where you can find something in common to talk about, and avoid places like the movies where it’s kinda difficult to find a time to talk.
His thoughts on summer festivals
😈: I had a lot of festival appearances this year. If you add spring and summer festivals, probably 15? And I think in July, every week I had like 2 festival appearances or something…
[He mentioned Green Room? Ocean Peoples? Festival, Lucky Fes, RockIn, Summer Sonic]
So I’ve been at a few big festivals… I think I’m still learning though. Seeing people who are really good at summer festivals attract the crowd while “Novel Core” has a stage I’d go, “Ahh, they got me!”, so it makes me wanna put on a good live.
What do you do when you’re undecided?
😈: Do I want to “wakuwaku” or no. Say we’re making something, whether we have a big budget or no budget, I’m the type that shirks away from those kind of details. If there’s really value in doing it, I’m the type that pretty much ignores [the project]’s profitability. I will do it because I’m sure I can get it back somehow. So I pretty much decide based on if it is “wakuwaku” or not.
What motivates you in life?
😈: All OUTERs. Their happiness and sadness are my motivation. Whether it’s OUTERs, my friends, my family, my staff, they’ve been following me since I started and it makes me strong, and I’m the type that’s really curious about what my followers / fans’ interests are.
