KAIRYU (MAZZEL) – Panther Mukai's Flat (2025.03.31)

On March 31st, 2025 Kairyu made an appearance on Japanese TV personality, Mukai Panther's radio program, "Panther Mukai's Flat"

The whole program ran for 1 hour and 30 minutes (8:30 am to 10:00 am), Kairyu appeared for an hour starting at 9am!

Brief Summary
The MCs congratulated Kairyu on being the new host for TALK ABOUT (formerly headed by Kudo Taiki from Da-iCE for seven years).
They also asked him questions about MAZZEL, about BMSG, and how / what prompted him to pursue a career in the entertainment industry.

Mukai-san (Panther)
Hyadain (co-host)
☕ (Kairyu)

It has been ☕’s 7th or 8th time at TBS radio

They congratulate ☕ on being the new host for TALK ABOUT
Mukai-san says it’s like an audition, they invite you a couple of times (in his case it was Ousama Brunch) and then you get your regular program
☕: Ah~ So this is [how the] industry works

Mukai-san says it must be quite rare for ☕ to get up early for this…
☕: Yeah! Usually I’m still sleeping, so my face is probably super swollen! Do I look alright?
Mukai-san: A lot of photos will be taken, you’ll be OK?
☕: Make me look flattering in the photos please! 🙏

Their intro for Kairyu: Born in 2000, from Hyogo. Discovered black music in his childhood, participated in MISSIONx2 an audition for BMSG’s second boy group produced by SKY-HI, debut in 2023 as a member of MAZZEL. And now the new host for TBS Radio’s Saturday program, TALK ABOUT!

☕ still remembers his first invite on to TALK ABOUT with 🐥, it was probably right after they debut.
☕: It was really fun!

When did ☕ hear the news that he’ll take over TALK ABOUT?
Before it was confirmed ☕heard from his manager-san that an offer was in discussion and they’re arranging things. He has always said he wanted his own radio program since debut, ☕ wasn’t expecting his dream to come true this fast, and for such a huge program like TALK ABOUT. So when the offer was finally confirmed he was really excited and jumping around (forgetting that he’s an entertainer).

Does ☕ feel any pressure?
☕ says since Taiki hosted the program for seven years, and the first TALK ABOUT with him as host is dropping this weekend – he’s a little nervous now.

Does ☕ have ideas for how he wants to kick off his first TALK ABOUT as host?
☕has been listening and studying on how Taiki opens his past TALK ABOUTs (he likes listening to radio when he goes on walks)

☕ is the type that likes to call on the guests right away, rather than open the show by himself first like Taiki does.

☕ wasn’t the type to listen to radio before, but since having their own program (MAZZ RAJI) and guesting on other people’s show, he started listening and the idea of having his own program started. He realized radio is quite fun!
☕: It’ll be great if I had my own!

How is ☕ and MAZZ RAJI like?
☕ says there’s usually 2-3 people in charge for one episode. There’s a general script of what they should say and instructions, but he says he just talks a lot on MAZZ RAJI.
Mukai-san: So you like to talk?
☕: I do!
Mukai-san: So you’re not that different when you’re “ON” and “OFF”?
☕: I think when I’m backstage with the members I’m the most quiet. It’s not like I’m completely mute but once I’m in the dressing room it’s like I’m kinda hibernating. I’ll just scroll on my phone.

Does ☕ have a stock of stories he keeps? Mukai-san says especially if they’re doing radio, one has to have them!
☕ says they often get asked a lot about “episodes” so he has been keeping a notebook whenever something happens, or “Ah, this would be funny / interesting” since debut. He had the experience of “Ah! I have a good story, but what was ittttt” when asked about it before, so he’s kept a note with him ever since.

About Reiwa Roman’s Kemuri-san as his first guest
☕ has always liked comedians so he said he’d like a comedian to be on his radio program (when he has one). He was really surprised the staff got him the winner of M-1 comedy grand prix 😮😂 They met each other (for the first time) prior to recording TALK ABOUT

Once Taiki’s last TALK ABOUT ended, ☕ also badgered Taiki for advice
☕: Please give me more info!

☕ wants to use this opportunity to befriend more people in the industry

When did ☕ become interested in the entertainment industry?
☕ has always been interested in music since elementary, but he wanted to actually pursue and be a part of it from seeing a Kpop group’s live in middle school (SM Town), and he had the thought of “I want to be on stage.”

☕ is a big fan of SM Entertainment and SM Town is a fes of all the company’s artists.
SM Town was his first ever live concert

So did ☕ want to be in Kpop / a Kpop artist?
☕: Yes, I actually didn’t think of Japan at all, I wanted to be a Kpop artist and be a part of SM.

After high school graduation, ☕ was a part of a Kpop company and that’s where he learned Korean. It wasn’t long, only for 6 months.

☕ heard of SKY-HI’s boy group audition around the time he returned to Japan from Korea after his contract with the Korean company ended. There was also COVID, so he was, mentally, in a really hard place. Whether in Korea or Japan, a lot of auditions were put on pause / project dropped completely because of COVID, so he had no idea what to do. He saw a link to the audition from probably avex, and he thought this was super good, maybe he’ll have a chance to debut in Japan, and it was the first time he considered debuting in Japan as a possibility.

Although ☕ didn’t pass THE FIRST, he contacted [boss] after he was eliminated, “I”m going to work hard, I’ve been working on x, y z! Please take another look at me! 🙏” and sent many videos. Then, 🌞 contacted ☕ directly about being a BMSG Trainee.

Why did you want to be a part of BMSG so badly?
☕: There were a lot of comments from producers and trainers, and 🌞 also had his, about the audition, and I thought, “There’s nowhere else but here!” It really moved me.

☕: When I was eliminated I actually felt really frustrated. I was thinking, “I’m sooo gonna debut and be an even bigger artist! Make you think twice [of letting me go]! 😠😤” but I also had the thought, “But I really want to debut in BMSG~ 😭🥺” There was no other choice besides sending [my videos], so I sent it.

How is 🌞 like?
☕: Although he’s the CEO and an artist, when he’s with us / me in a room, he’s just an older brother and I think he’s a really good person.

On MISSIONx2 and road to being MAZZEL
☕ was very ready to debut (during MISSIONx2), and when he was confirmed as one of the members, he was thinking, “This is just the beginning!” 😤 Once MAZZEL debut, all he could think about was what he / the group should do.

MAZZEL and other groups of BMSG
☕ thinks compared to their senpais or their kouhais, MAZZEL has a colour the other groups of BMSG don’t have. They have members who aimed for Kpop, came from a dance background, and believes that they shine the most in variety.

☕ likes singing and thinks his voice / singing is his strength. He wants people to pay attention to his singing when looking at MAZZEL ✨

☕ has recorded on his own before, and he feels like his singing improves or he can try a new way of singing when receiving directions from vocal directors. It also makes him think, “I'm being an artist! I’m so cooollll~ ✨”
☕: Being in the booth is super cool!
☕ loves recording, it’s his favorite. He is often in charge of harmonies too.

As a singer, ☕ thinks there’s nothing that makes him happier than hearing his voice singing on a super cool track that the producers have made.

☕ says 🌞 often shares with them songs that are being made, he says they can also share with 🌞 the kind of songs they want, and 🌞 can create one for them. ☕ says there’s been a lot of that lately.

[a new MC to take over the quiz corner segment instead of Hyadain]
Akasaka – ☕ has only been around the area once, for Harry Potter studio

☕ was given a quiz about Akasaka by the MCs, to see how much he knows about the area

(why is Akasaka sometimes called AkasakaSU 赤坂ス? Because Akasaka is a hilly area, the kanji for “saka” [坂] also means “hill”, so the SU is to show the plural form of the amount of hills in Akasaka as “AkasakaSU” [Akasaka”S”])

☕ got one question right (it was word play)

☕ had a chance to introduce TALK ABOUT on the show, and got advice from Mukai-san and the MC on how to kick off the program at the start

Hope you enjoyed!
