SKY-HI – NNG Ep. 3 IG Live (2024.10.18)
In SKY-HI's NNG IG live for episode 3, he shared a lot of his excitement on the project and thoughts on his business and entertainment at large. So the summary for this is a little longer than the previous two episodes.
As with boss's IG lives, he jumps around topics and / or forgets why he's talking about what he is saying, lol. I will try and categorize what he says into different sections for easier reading!
(KANON makes a brief appearance in boss's IG live and boss turns into father mode for a few seconds haha)

[Q: Are you involved with judging the girls for NNG?]
He’s not involved with NNG, at least when it comes to picking girls (to pass), it’s all Chanmina
(recommending everyone to brush their teeth lol)
He wants to talk about MAZZEL too, but isn’t NNG ep 3 super good?!
[starts talking about the filter, lmao. “Usually you won’t put this on your face right?"]
[Reading comments] Oh, everyone’s saying they’re in the middle of brushing their teeth
Ya know, Imma have to go brush my teeth again because I had beer! [boss laughs]]

- He was there for Round 3 Training Camp Day 2 interim report, though none of the footage of him on that day was used
- He’s very impressed with CHANMINA’s ability to produce; he’s glad to have met her and selected her as the producer
- He’s impressed with Team F. Of course all teams, D, E, F were great. And D was yabai
"I cried! People who bet all their life on something are beautiful"
- Isn’t ep 3 super good!? x7
- Team E just laying their souls bare, that’s not acting or them being an actress you know
- Isn’t Mina so good getting that out of them? X5
- He’s reminded of THE FIRST again, when he brought CHANMINA as a guest. He remembers talking to Mina that if their roles were reversed and Mina was his age and he was hers, she would do the same thing for him.
A reminder
Reminds everyone that this isn’t THE FIRST. Mina is able to empathize with the girls’ – their struggles, feelings and their experiences. For him, he knows there will be aspects of the girls’ experiences that he won’t be able to understand, so he’s taking a step back this time. Of course, he’ll help where he is able to, like hold the audition, provide finances and the people needed. So he’s supporting and watching from a distance, Mina is saying exactly what he would’ve said and the girls’ performances still make him feel something. So he doesn’t feel like he really needs to say anything because whatever he would’ve said Mina has said it – even if not word for word, it’ll be similar.
Next week is when they ask girls [to stay] and thank the girls who have made it this far, so he wants everyone to be ready and look forward to it.
Impressed with Mina’s ability to select the songs, purposefully pick songs that would be easy for the girls to imitate the original singers to; how she decided on the teams, etc.
You’ll have many moments of “So that’s why Chanmina said this to her in Round 3!” in the next episode.
He says we’ll definitely be surprised next week [and that’s all he’ll spoil for next week].

But becoming better is more important I think. Updating yourself…”

"10 Hidakas is not enough. We’re functioning with 15 Hidakas right now!"
"How Is KANON~? But KANON you are still a high schooler right? To be up at this hour watching an insta live is hmmmmmm? How old are you anyway, well 18 is already an adult."
We have a 50 yo too, the oldest employee is over 50.

He wants to make society, Japan, Asia, the world better.
He talks briefly about producing the song for Kaito. He says there are a lot of talent that is still asleep [in the industry], and he thinks out of anyone in the industry he has the skills to help dig them up. He wants to make artists and idols happy – regardless of their company, nationality or gender. For that to happen he wants to make a good company.

He says he isn’t doing a imitation of RyonRyon sensei this time so he is archiving this. If he says something “yabee” he won’t archive.

24 hours. Whenever I work, I have a song. I made a song today, insane right?! I made one yesterday too! He’s in a state of joy that he doesn’t have time to worry about how to get one song done. He is grateful for this environment and golden period of time where he is surrounded by talented artists and friends who will join in when he says, “Let’s make a song”, by staff who believe in him [and the company] to have good results, by artists in waiting [i guess he means trainees? Idk]. Thank you so much~

For his artists’ future’s sake, he doesn’t talk about THE FIRST a lot [to them / with them] but it’s an important program and an important part of his life, with NNG he is tempted to watch it again, because it was emotional and nostalgic.
Episode 1 and 2 hit over 1 million views – isn’t that crazy? He’s thankful for everyone – people watching, people sharing. He’s happy and grateful for the girls, for CHANMINA, and he is too for all the hype and attention around NNG.
He is definite that this is the start of the cycle of happiness (koufuku no saikaru), so let’s keep working hard together 💪

I said I’ll do a IG live at 23:00 after every NNG episode, but you know, other than being BMSG’s CEO, I’m also a producer for BE:FIRST and MAZZEL. And MAZZEL had their arena shows today. After their arena shows I treated them to yakiniku… And then I got back right, brushed my teeth and flossed…

On his business acumen
Never let an artist or idol consume you. I will never allow them to do that, in any form. So ultimately, I can only work with people who won’t do that. I can’t work with people who make artists or idols suffer or exploit them.
Of course, he thinks the bonds and interactions males have is beautiful and he likes that too. But he doesn’t want to get too comfortable feeling this way, because if it’s “comfortable” then there’s a possibility for people who don’t identify [with that gender] to feel uncomfortable. As a company that interacts with and faces society as a whole in the entertainment industry, we cannot allow that to happen. In that sense, it may be an easy decision to understand, but I felt a sense of duty to do a program for a group of women who have lived in a completely different culture as a gender for hundreds of millions of years. I'm proud to be able to call CHANMINA as a producer, and I'm proud of the way I live my life.

"So yeah, things like ‘Up our numbers~” or "Get people hyped up for the audition~" things that will make the girls who audition suffer is something I definitely don’t wanna do. They’ve already bet their life on this. Everyone. I don’t want to give them a hard time in the midst of their audition.

I mean, how is it like working as a staff in BMSG, and what kind of people are employees – right now BE:FIRST’s chief manager Matsuo’s video is all the buzz right? Everyone in the company laughs at how the numbers keep growing, but I always thought it would work. I thought about this star manager project while I was working as an artist in a big company [avex] in my 20s.

His thoughts on what entertainment should be
Entertainment should be a mirror of society. The world is irrational and unkind so everyone has to fight it right? Fight the irrationality. He thinks entertainment can help people understand how to face those struggles. When you’re feeling so sad and in despair and you can’t consult anyone and wondering what to do – entertainment and the power of messages in music can do that. Entertainment isn’t an escape from reality, that’s something different, it’s about how to face reality head on, while giving you support and help on your way – that’s entertainment for him.
