In 2023, SKY-HI released another book, Management no Hanashi, with Nikkei.
Since I follow and read the Nikkei interview series, Be myself, for ourselves, I thought I'll buy it whenever I had the chance to be in Japan. I was also guessing based on the title that boss may drop some gems on management and his company, BMSG.
The following is a summary of parts of the book plus my own thoughts! Enjoy!
I thought this would be a collection of the Nikkei interviews online (BMFO) but it's not actually. It was nice to read what I already know plus additional info that I wasn't aware of (like the 2020-2021 yrs before i hopped on this ship).
- LEO hanging around boss the most during THE FIRST. Best boy cute. No wonder boss said he has golden retriever energy during AHNTF lmao 🥺✨🦁☀️🧸🧡
Boss believes leadership isn't bound by: acting a certain way / being the oldest to be leader because people change depending on the situation or context. He mentions how he made 🐉 leader in THE FIRST Round 3 Screenings & brings up 🦁.
He acknowledges that while 🦁 does exhibit leadership qualities, especially during THE FIRST and at THE FIRST training camp, he also knows that 🦁's the youngest sib in his family & out of everyone in the company he wants to be spoiled by boss the most, haha 😂🙏
🥺✨☀️🧸🧡
When it came to managing eddy, RuiRui, TaiTai, he brings up the importance of schooling. Before & during eddy's debut with "NO", boss had many conversations with eddy's mum about his schooling, attendance, and grades.
Eddy was still in school and he would not ask or expect eddy or his family to – move to Tokyo, or cause an impact on eddy’s schooling or grades – just because eddy landed a contract with BMSG.
With RuiTai, he mentions again that summer 2022 was him testing their waters - taking them on his tour, their split EP, and appearing in summer festivals... He also had many conversations with them if [debut, working as an artist] is something serious they want to pursue 👍
As a producer, certain songs are created with certain members in mind - with "Moment" it was 🦁; "Milli-Billi" was 🐨
- After he talked about D.U.N.K., wanting to hold a sports festival was mentioned 👀 (manifesting!!)
- he is only human. He brings up how he needs his secretary to write him a list of what he needs to bring when visiting a bank 🥺😂🙏
But boss is really making an effort to make sure BMSG is a company where everyone is comfortable & able to communicate - even if it's something they need to report to him about; he doesn't want his employees to feel "well he's an artist he dun need to know that" & leave him out
He's thankful for these interview sessions with Nikkei. Not many business people have the opportunity to sit & reflect on their company & practices so he enjoys them 😊
Side note: He says management isn't just managing people - he feels it also encompasses managing yourself too
- some more wordplays with BMSG
- things are moving [in the industry]
- Boss hopes you can make a change too! Ending with his classic "let's do our best together 💪👊" / 一緒に頑張ろう 😊
Hope you enjoyed!
