Translation of MAZZEL RADIO STATION #27, October 1, 2023

Since April 2nd this year, MAZZEL has started their own radio show on Tokyo FM, MAZZEL RADIO STATION!

I recently got to their 30th episode, so I thought I'll start sharing their episodes from the very beginning.

Brief Summary
This episode is with Ran and Ryuki! As members whose hometown is in Kyuushu, they talked about their local dialects and spoke in it this episode! They also respond to some listener messages.

This episode included the following special segments:
- MAZZEL TRACKS: Members take turns to share a song to play on radio and why they shared it.
*RAN shares a song in this corner

Intro
🦔: Today is 🦅 and 🦔! KYUSHUUZ
🦅: That’s right, I’m worried
🦔: Me too
🦔: Our script says we should talk in Kumamoto dialect (🦅) and Hakata dialect (🦔), shall we?
🦅: Shall we do it?
🦅: My Kumamoto dialect doesn’t come out unless I’m conscious of it though
🦔: Only when you’re talking to friends right
🦅: Yeah, very that.
[ 🦅’s Kumamoto dialect 0:47, second attempt 1:05]

🦅: As you heard, it doesn’t really come out 😅
🦔: Yeah. Maybe introduce everyone to Kumamoto dialect instead
🦅: Well, like what you heard, we add “ken” after our sentences and “sho”, “bai” and “tai”, “dago”...
🦔: “dago”? You guys use that?
🦅: I heard “dago” isn’t used as much though.
🦔: I’m from Kyuushuu too but I don’t really know about Kumamoto-dialect 🤔

[some more talks about dialects here that are kinda lost on me i’m sorry, lmao]

🦅: We’re in October everyone!
🦔: October!
🦅: It’s crazy isn’t it?

🦅: We’re close to our, in some ways, youngest member, Ryuki’s birthday! 🎉
🦔: Youngest?
🦅: Yeah, youngest
🦔: Isn’t it Tom?
🦅: Yeah, he is, but you’re the youngest
🦔: Wha?
🦅: Aren’t you? Even in size.
🦔: So it’s a height thing?

[The Moon in the West plays]
🦔: We brought our own colours to it right, WEST
🦅: Yeah!
🦔: Members with strong personalities. While EAST kind of had things under control…
🦅: Everyone going “yeah!” together…
🦔: Watch it lots!
🦅: Yes! Enjoy the slight differences!

🦅: When this recording [of mazz raji] airs, it’s around the time [the final day] of the FES ends. We’re recording this before it actually ends. We don’t know how the FES will turn out really, but we’re really looking forward to it
🦔: So true
🦅: MAZZEL and KANON are appearing in it
🦔: Mm
🦅: And we’ve increased in numbers
🦔: 23…
🦅: How was rehearsals? Anything significant?
🦔: I watched the FES last year, and thinking… a year later I’ll be appearing… you usually don’t see rehearsals right? So I was quite moved… I had many moments during rehearsals where I thought, I’m glad the me last year did my best.
🦅: That’s amazing.
🦔: How was it for you, last year and this year
🦅: I participated last year as a trainee, but this year I’m appearing as a member of a boy group. The feeling is very different. We were in the middle of [MISSIONx2] audition during the FES last year, so there were [MISSIONx2] contestants who went to watch. Those members eventually became part of the group, and we can stand on stage together.. It gets me… I wouldn’t say excited (wakuwaku) but it’s very touching.
🦔: I wonder if people listening are getting a bit teary eyed?
🦅: Maybe? 😄

[BMSG FES ‘23 screened in cinemas across Japan announcement 🎉]
🦅: I wonder what that’s like? Watching the FES in a movie theatre? It seems fun
🦔: Yeah, sounds fun. And that means friends in your hometown can watch it right
🦅: Definitely, you can enjoy BMSG FES in your hometown. I’m sure there are a lot of people who couldn’t make it or didn’t win the ticket lottery.
🦔: You can bring friends who don’t know BMSG to the movies, that sounds like it would be fun
🦅: Yeah! They might get really into the music.

[announcement that the BMSG FES ‘23 Tokyo Show will be on Hulu 🎉]

Q from the listener: Is there a teacher that left an impression?
🦔: Whichever teacher I had were all really kind. When I was in 8th Grade? My Homeroom Teacher always said “Spirited, has tenacity, and passion” (気合い・根性・パッション).
🦅: 🤣🤣🤣🤣
🦔: They were a PE teacher 😂 They said it quite often in whatever kind of situation too. I used to laugh but looking back on it now I think that’s super important.
🦅: Sounds like your origins, and you say it often too
🦔: I do I think! 🤣 I’m grateful for that phrase.

🦔: What about Ran-nii?
🦅: For me… I was a PA announcer / broadcaster in middle school.. The teacher managing the students [doing the PAs] was very strict. If we fool around too much or make a lot of noise they’ll tell us off. But they’ll teach us what is important when it mattered, they were that kind of teacher. They were a teacher that taught me various things when I was in my 2nd and 3rd year of middle school. They’re supportive [of me / mazz] now.
🦔: That’s a wonderful teacher then!
🦅: As for high school… I think when I was in the middle of the auditions, so I couldn’t appear at the graduation ceremony. It clashed with the auditions. When I told my Homeroom Teacher I was going to be absent, they told me, “It’s your dream, so you should definitely prioritise that”
🦔: Wow~!
🦅: Hearing that made me wanted to work harder
🦔: That’s a very good teacher!
🦅: I still remember that.
🦔: Put your dreams first
🦅: I got told off a whole lot during middle and high school. People often say, “I’m glad you told me that back then”, don’t they. Certain words definitely make more sense when you look back on it when you’re older.
🦅: So for all the students listening, don’t be fooled.
🦔: Yeah, teachers have good things to say. They see a lot.
🦅: There will definitely come a time when you want to say, “Thank you for what you said back then”

MAZZEL TRACKS
🦅: I’m always undecided on the song when it’s my turn.
🦔: You do. You were still undecided right before we recorded
🦅: I was. 1 minute before.. ☕ makes it his own thing right?
🦔: Ahh, with EXO
🦅: There’s 8 of us, so I think it’s OK to have [members] who have distinctive tastes
🦔: So what did you decide?
🦅: I’ve been doing dance for a long time. I used to participate in dance battles, so it’s a song that I used a lot when I was active.
[Michael Jackson’s Heartbreaker]
🦅: It was a song they used in the 2012 dance battles. There was a dancer back then who was a popper, whose skills were unmatched. I watched the video where they used this song, they were super cool. It made me want to stand on that stage too. So this song was a gateway for me going into dance battles.

[Carnival, the full song plays]

Ending
🦅: The recording feels long, it always does when I’m with 🦔
🦔: Really?
🦔: We’re the KYUUSHUU pair
🦅: How are we, are we OK on radio everyone?
🦔: We are! It’s relaxing isn’t it?

[a joke] 🦅: The staff’s flip board says “🦔’s 5th birthday”
🦔: It just says “Ryuki’s birthday!” and “Birthday special!”
🦔: And KYUUSHUUZ
🦅: Ahh, right. Oh, the staff says to end today’s program with our dialects!
🦔: Which dialect should I use?
🦅: ? Which dialect to use?
🦔[maybe got directions from staff via flip board]: Ah, we go one at a time?
🦅: You were terrible!
🦔: HAHAHAHAH! Now it’s your turn!

[🦅 makes up for the lack of Kumamoto dialect by using it lots]
🦔: For Ran-nii’s sake, let’s wrap this up lmaoooo
🦅: [returns to standard] Thanks for listening to MAZZEL RADIO STATION everyone~!
