🦦: Ah! Ahh!! Ah, but I dunno… “Nan” has a word formed with the kanji for “south” (minami 南)? But I don’t know how to read it.

🦦: Nankin! (⚾: Nankin!) [pumpkin in Japanese can be read as かぼちゃ kabocha、or like here なんきん na”n”ki”n”]
🦦: with かぼちゃ (kabocha) in paranthesis

🦦: Udon is written as “undon” うんどん ( ⚾: Undon)!!
⚾: That’s impossible right?

[“udon” is actually short for the word “undon”. 饂飩 is the kanji for「うどん」which is the udon noodle we’re familiar with. Due to the passing of time and use of hiragana over kanji, most people in Japan use and recognise the shortened hiragana “udon” now and not kanji, or the full word, "undon" anymore. This applies to many other language and linguistic trends and changes happening in Japan over time, but I'm no linguist lmao. I just find it very interesting. While Japanese kanji shares some of their meaning with its Chinese Mandarin counterparts, there are some kanjis that – while shared between Chinese Mandarin and Japanese – mean a different thing in each language; and others that are unique to Japan and thus Japanese kanjis. This kanji is one of the latter, because it is not used in Mandarin. However, this kanji (饂飩) looks very similar to the kanji that refers to dumpling in soup (餛飩 or 雲吞). In Japanese it refers to “わんたんwantan” or “wonton” in English!]

🦦: I want to! [work part-time]. I started working part-time as soon as I got into high school.

🦦: And at izakaya.. I feel like I’ve brought it up somewhere else. I can’t mention the restaurant’s name. I was a staff for one of the restaurants in a food court too.

⚾: I worked at a izakaya for a pretty long time, that was my main one. I also worked at a clothing store for a little bit

⚾: There isn’t a lot of convenience stores in Tokyo that have [self-serve] oden, don’t you think?

⚾: But when I go late in the night…
🦦: Ohh OK, you mean there is an oden corner but there’s no food inside

⚾: First of all, the broth they use for oden is good right

⚾: Ah! There is, near my house. There used to be battles so there is a billboard. There’s no battles now, but the billboard is still there.
