💌: Same age combi

💌: It’s New Year’s Eve today!
🐹: It’s the 31st today!
💌: Crazy! I wonder what everyone’s doing? / 🐹: What are you guys doing?
💌: I’m happy people can spend New Year’s Eve with Mazz Raji
🐹: Thank you so much / 💌: Thank you so much for listening
🐹: Please listen to us on the 31st too!
💌: Yes please!

🐹: What do you do on New Year’s Eve? What about last year, what did you do?
🐹: Oh wait we went back [home]! We went back / 💌: I went back
🐹: I watched
💌: Kouhaku at home.
🐹: At home, yeah. I kept saying, “I wanna appear on it!” 😩 as I watched, haha! Let’s make sure we appear on it next year! 💪
💌: Of course! 🔥

New Year Clean?
🐹: Do people also deep clean their house?
💌: Big clean at the end of the year
🐹: Busy!
💌: They should! [Clean their house] Us too.
🐹: Please listen to this as you work on cleaning up your home!
💌: When you’re back home, do you help with the cleaning?
🐹: Eh? I didn’t. I just lazed around at home hahaha!
💌: But you know, when it’s your own apartment.. We gotta do it ourselves right?
🐹: Yeah. 💌’s apartment is really clean
💌: I usually don’t need a big clean-up of my apartment, I’m the type that cleans frequently
🐹: True~
💌: But I think 🐹’s pretty clean too
🐹: Hahahah! Yeah, you and I are pretty neat / clean
💌: Compared to 🦄
🐹: 😂😂😂😂😂😂
💌: 🦄’s pretty insane
🐹: Really?
💌: It’s mostly because he has a lot of stuff
🐹: Oohhh

HAYATO's Birthday! Plus Seito and Eiki's birthday
💌: Speaking of, it’s his birthday tomorrow!
🐹: That’s right!
🐹: CONGRATS HAYATO! / 💌: CONGRATS!
🐹: He’s turning 19 right?
💌: 19!
🐹: Hold up, 19 still?!
💌: Still 19!
🐹: Man! That’s young!
💌: Young~
🐹: And we’re 22
💌: 22
💌: It was Seichan’s birthday earlier right? The 26th
🐹: That’s right~
💌: Mine too, on the 6th. 22. We’re 22! Isn’t that crazy?
🐹: How is 22 looking, 💌?
💌: ☕’s said it before, 23 is when you feel like an adult. 22 you’re still kind of a kid…
🐹: Eh? So that means once you’re 23 you’re more like an adult?
💌: Yeah, once you’re 23 you’re not a kid anymore
🐹: That means we gotta start acting proper next year
💌: Yes, this year it’s still OK – is what I heard
🐹: Then let’s be like kids a lot this year
💌: Yeah!

🐹: I gave 💌 shoes for his birthday
💌: Yes, I got shoes! From 🐹
🐹: 🦄, 🦔, and me
💌: It’s super cute, I wear it lots.
🐹: Green shoes~
💌: Look forward to Seito’s birthday too! We’re recording this before his birthday
🐹: I’m looking forward to it~
💌: I’m older so
🐹: You’re working hard! 🤣

[Re: Morgan Wallen’s “Last Night”]
💌: His activities as a country singer in America stood out in 2023. When you hear “country” what comes to mind?
🐹: Country? Lots of🐄-sans? Grasslands?
💌: Mmm, I get it. Tea-colored land…
🐹: Tea-colored? 🤣 Country music is a genre isn’t it
💌: It says so in the script. I’ll read it

💌 reading the script: To put it simply, country music is music that is loved by the people in the country. Birthed from states like Texas and Tennessee, acoustic guitar and lyrics of the day to day are key features of this type of music.

🐹 as a joke: Of course, I wanted to say that
💌 follows along: Me too
💌: It’s true though, when I hear music like that, I go “Ah, it’s country!”, and it could be the guitar too? You don’t really hear it in Japan
🐹: It’s relaxing! I feel like I listened to country music this year…
💌: You’re serious?
🐹: Serious
🐹, 💌: 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
💌: Like who? 🤣
🐹: I can’t remember the name… It was trendy last year too right? Country music. There were a lot of overseas artists doing country music so I remember that I listened to a bunch…
💌: I think of black cars with smoke coming out of exhaust pipe
🐹: MAZZEL should release some country music
💌: It would be good wouldn’t it? Lots of guitar

🐹: It’s New Year’s Eve so let’s take it easy!
💌: Yes, let’s! I think we are already though 😆
[Taylor Swift’s “Speak Now” plays]

[Listener 1: What’s your favourite way to spend New Year’s? Although I live in Tokyo I’m actually from the Kansai area. I need to have my New Year’s food or it’s not New Years! MAZZEL members come from various cities, what do you eat during New Year’s? How many mochis can you guys eat?]
🐹: Before coming to Tokyo I spent it with the same routine. Spend the day at home with my family, eat dinner as we watch Kouhaku. Then go to the shrine. Have New Year’s meal in the morning.. That was always the routine, but you know… after coming here, it’s not like that anymore, even though I still go home sometimes.
💌: What time do you go to bed then?
🐹: I just sleep until the morning? I’d often get up to catch the first sunrise with friends. What about 💌?

💌: I would have dinner with my family, but we’d spend the moment [midnight] separately. I have siblings but they’d spend it with their friends, and me too. I’d go to a shrine with my friends. I’d always count down [to New Year’s] at the shrine. Then have osechi the next morning.

💌: Do you jump?
🐹: Of course! I also jump to celebrate my friends’ birthdays
💌: You do? 🤣
💌: When it was Nao’s birthday, we jumped didn’t we?
🐹: I was there?
💌: You were! The three of us jumped together
🐹: Oh~ we spent Nao’s birthday together 😊

🐹: So people do the jump a lot?
💌: They do I think. It was quite trendy to do starting two years ago right. The jump
🐹: If you don’t jump it might be bad luck 🤣 (💌: Gotta jump) so you gotta jump

🐹: HAYATO’s birthday is in January right, my dad’s birthday is in January too.
💌: Aji-kun
🐹: Yes, Aji-kun, wait huh?
🐹: We’re always busy in January so we often forget about it
💌: You should celebrate it properly, just once
🐹: So I’m wondering if Tom is OK. Should say it properly to him
💌: You know.. Like New Year’s greetings, people used to send New Year Cards… Now people just send messages… Do you send a proper one?
🐹: I do yeah
💌: You do?
🐹: I sent them last year too. But you know, do I send it under my name or via the office… that’s hard 😂 Heheheeh!
💌: Yeah, difficult!
🐹: Difficult!
🐹: Now we’re a group… It’s difficult deciding who is first!
💌: Once someone says it in a group it’s easier [for the others]
🐹: 💌 usually goes first
💌: It’s easier going first, and sending the message..

🐹: Wait [the listener message] was about New Year’s food! 😂 What does 💌 usually have?
💌: I’m not sure if it’s because I’m from Aichi, but we have sumashi? It’s not miso. It’s transparent, and we have it with kamaboko and omochi.
🐹: We have the exact same stuff
💌: Really? Then is it a Kansai thing?
🐹: Eh? But on the script here it says “In Hyougo, they mix sumashi with miso” 🤔
💌: The listener-san is from Kansai so they have clear miso…
🐹: But I haven’t had miso at all…
💌: Me neither…
🐹: It’s always sumashi
💌: [Clear] miso… I want to try it
🐹: Me too

🐹: Omochi.. How many omochi can you eat?
💌: If it’s in ozouni (Japanese traditional New Year’s soup) I can have one
🐹: Eh? One?
💌: Eh? How many are usually in ozouni?
🐹: How many in ozouni? Wait wait 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Omochi Omochi!
💌: Omochi! 😂 If it’s in ozouni…
🐹: One right? One

🐹: Shrimp, omochi and.. What was it.. Shitake mushrooms, konbu, and.. What else 😂
💌: You mean in ozouni? Carrot?
🐹: Carrot?! Fo real? That can’t be right, ingredients are different!
💌: That green…
🐹: Not konbu? Then mekabu? Oh mekabu’s not in ozouni 😂
💌: I guess it’s visually appealing 😂
🐹: Oh celery leaves!
💌: Something like that? Is in there right
🐹: Is celery leaves in it? I wouldn’t eat it in an ozouni
💌: True but it seems to appear a lot 😂

💌: Shape of the omochi…
🐹: Square-shaped mochi
💌: Square mochi right? [asks staff] Does that differ depending on the region too? Kansai is round?
🐹: Really? I thought it was square!
💌: Right?

🐹: Do you eat toshiboshi soba?
💌: I do!
🐹: I don’t (💌: Wha?). My family doesn’t eat it
💌: 😂
🐹: 😂
💌: Our routine is we eat soba. We have sukiyaki, soba, and in the morning osechi and ozouni. There are people who have crab hot pot don’t they? Like team sukiyaki and team crab hot pot.
🐹: I’m probably team sukiyaki
💌: Maybe that depends on the family and not region 🤔
🐹: Eh now I want to try it… Please mom, next time! 🙏 But I think I like sumashi more 🤣 Next time when I go home! 🙏

[Listener 2: Please use one kanji / word to represent the year, and share your goals for next year in 1 kanji / word too!]
💌: One word huh / 🐹: Harrrddd!
💌: You hear [one word] a lot towards the end of the year

💌: Mine is the “haji”「初」 in “hajimete”「初めて」 and “uhiuhishii”「初々しい」. It’s our debut year… for me and for MAZZEL there was a lot of firsts, like TV shootings and this - mazz raji. It was a very eye-opening year.

🐹: The “e”「笑」 in “egao” 「笑顔」. This is the same for this year and next year, but I want to keep smiling, hahaha! 🤣🤣🤣
💌: 👏👏👏👏 That’s great, very Sei-chan!
🐹: I want to keep smiling
💌: So for next year it’s also “wara” 「笑」
🐹: Yeah, laugh / smile a lot. With everyone!
💌: That’s important
🐹: Next year’s really critical for MAZZEL right
💌: Mm, definitely
🐹: To prove that we’ve been working hard on a lot of things
💌: mm
🐹: But next year we won’t be rookie artists anymore, so let’s do our best! 🔥💪

💌: This year it’s a lot of firsts, so “haji” right? This year was a lot of.. Us being guided on how to do things. This is difficult to explain 😅 We experienced? A lot of things. Next year, I want MAZZEL to be able to guide and take the lead in something. All of us have a lot of skills so I want us all to make it a good year.
🐹: Very Eiki!

[Other than hajimete “初”めて with “初”, which means firsts, you can also write hajimete 始めて with “始”! The difference between the two is “初” is used to talk about “beginnings” / “firsts” 「初」めて, while “始” refers to when / since you have “started” something 仕事を「始」めたから….

Because the kanji for SHI in “shidou” 「始動」 shares the same kanji, 「始」, Eiki chose this for his word!]
