LINER VOICE+ for BE:FIRST's second album "2:BE" dropped on Spotify after the album's digital release.

Link to listen here!

The boys and SKY-HI had a chance to discuss the work behind the scenes on each song of BE:FIRST's second album, "2:BE". These discussions are also known as "liner notes". You can also enjoy the YouTube version, do note that the YouTube version only has the cuts of them discussing the lead songs from the singles included in this album.

True to the company acronym, Be My Self Group, the boys and boss do get off-topic at times, but it is overall a candid and intimate conversation between a producer and his artists (sons) :)

Throughout the translation I will have links to the BMSG Wiki pages for the songs to help people get to know some of the producers mentioned behind not just songs on 2:BE but other key BMSG production!

Without further ado....

Slogan

[Boss asking everybody to introduce themselves, starting from RYOKI. Ryoki thought he had to start talking about Slogan 😂]

[Boss saying they haven’t talked like this in a studio since BE:1]
🌞: Do you guys remember?
🕺: Did we do that in the morning? I remember that
The rest: wwwww
🐨: [How do you remember] the time? Ww
🐧: It’s been 2 years since then?
🌞: 2 years
The boys: Wow!
🦁: I’m getting nervous
🌞: Why why why? Www / 🐉: That’s fast~
🦁: Because we’d get compared
🌞: 🐉 was still in middle school right? (🐉: Eh?) Well, you were almost in high school
🐉: And I’m in my third year of high school now… An adult, uwey~
🐨: LOL wut 😂 / 🧨: I don’t think you’ve changed much 😂
🐉: I’m going to contribute to society as one of the adults now [he changed his tone to sound a little, “demure” 😂]
🌞: This is how the album sounds like everyone, *boss laugh*

🌞: Tokyo Dome was round the time you guys started with Tachigawa Garden right?
🦁: Yes!
🌞: And also BGB One-Day One Man Show...
🕺: Fo real?!
🌞: This is only your second album...
🦁: Yes
🌞: More like, your second album already. We’ve got a lot of new songs, and even more new songs. The album after BE:1, 2:BE!
🐉: 2:BE!
🦁: 2:BE!
🌞: What you want to be right? So, “to be….”. 🐨 have you become what you want to be?
🐨: I’ll do my best 💪
🌞: Hahahah. I was really touched!
🐨: No, please…
🌞: Yesterday, I was recording with the trainees… And 🫧 was training downstairs. When I went there, there was 🫧, 🐧, 🦅 muscle training. Then 🐨 was in B2 dancing.

*Note: B2 here stands for "basement second floor"

🐧: He did, it was his self-training time
🌞: 🐨 books himself a self-training session a lot actually! I was finally able to catch him when he’s self-training!
🐨: I’ve been doing that a lot recently.
🌞: You have a goal in mind?
🐨: Not really!
🌞: But you got some skills you wanna sharpen
🐨: Yes
??: Awesome! / [someone starts whistling 😂] / Yay yay!
🌞: We’re currently in Be My Self Garden [?!?!] recording this.
🌞: I’m happy I get to meet you guys a lot recently that isn’t related to work

🌞: And 🐧 didn’t go back at all yesterday right?
🐧: Until 1 I think…
🧨: AT NIGHT?! What were you doing?
🐧: I was prepping to go to the sauna..
🧨: Pay the utility bills!
[🌞 laughs]
🐧: I watched a lot of MVs too
🧨: On the TV?
🐧: I think I could’ve just stayed over
🧨: You pretty much stayed over didn’t you? 😂
🐧: If I slept for five hours, by the time I wake up it would be time to do make-up
🧨: True!
🦁: It’s OK to sleep in the Artist Room right?
🌞: One at a time, at least. You want to nap a little in there it’s fine... Wait, I’ll stop there, lots of people are listening 😂

[Finally getting on topic]
🌞: Slogan! 2:BE’s opening track!
🦁: Yes!
🌞: Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah
🦁: SLO-GAN! / Others: 👏👏👏👏
[The boys start “ii”-ing each other?]
🌞: I wanted 🕺to open with a rap, and he came over to my house too right?
🕺: I did!
🌞: And we made the track from there… Can I get you to talk about the track?
🕺: Sure. As an opening song, it feels like we’re carrying BMSG with us. “BF is…” is more like us (BE:FIRST), but now that we’re at this stage I wanted to sing a BMSG song. I took part in writing the lyrics for this, and I thought of how to link it with boss and BMSG, plus boss’s message to BE:FIRST. I think it’s an opening track where you can tell -pretty easily- how we’ve evolved.

🌞: When you decide what songs to work on or when you write lyrics, what the members each think of BE:FIRST is written down. You were all very conscious of BE:FIRST as you were writing. I got to be with each of you a lot in recordings. I think what’s good about each of you comes out in the songs, like how pure SOTA is. (🕺: ??) See, that’s pure (🧨: Cute!)

🌞: I also remember 🧨 writing his lyrics and we both got really hyped.
🧨: I remember~ I like it a lot!
🌞: Hahahaha!
🕺: 🧨’s was fun!

🌞: 🕺 mentioned carrying BMSG... I wrote “nanmankai” and when 🕺 was trying it out in the recordings, he said, “Ah, this thousands of times (nanmankai) isn’t just about BMSG, but those who have worked hard but can’t breakthrough in the industry.. So we’re carrying that with us right?” and I was like, “Oh true!”
🐧: You’re insane!
🌞: You guys feel that sense of responsibility? I’m sure you’ve had chances to speak with different people, and you’ve probably been put in charge of important roles… Do you feel it, 🐧?
🐧: 🕺 mentioned it too, “BF is…” is more about us and our growth, and build it up to a point where we can show ourselves. Now, I think we can show off, not just ourselves and our dreams, but also the company, other people, and their dreams for the next few years. I think it’s a good kind of pressure and responsibility, we will keep up and go along with it. We will have fun, while thinking of that as our big premise. I think it’s a good balance.
🌞: I get it. I think freedom and responsibility are equivalent exchanges. I would like you guys to take responsibility here and there. The reason is as you do take on responsibility there is some freedom. So freedom is.. Like 🐧 said, when you perform and be yourselves. I was going to ask 🐉 a question but it seems we need to move to the next song.. So we’ll have 🐉talk about the next song then?
🐉: No problem!

Masterplan

🌞: Masterplan is one of the key songs in BE:FIRST’s career. I think the traditional Japanese instruments was a good match with the drills (?) right? With BMSG it was “New Chapter”. How is it 🐉?

🐉: I think we made our presence (BE:FIRST) as a genre known with “Mainstream”. I think “Masterplan” presents something only we can do [as BE:FIRST], and a clear “BE:FIRST is here”. I think, including the producers, there isn’t a song like this one. I think it isn’t just a song that shows off BE:FIRST’s work behind the scenes, but also our skills too. It’s a song that we won’t ever leave out.

🌞: It isn’t just 1 or 2 songs, but from Boom Boom Back to [Masterplan] there’s been a lot. Masterplan’s choreography had a lot going on too right?
🕺: Yes. Sorry about that~
🌞: How was it for 🧨? The vibes for “Masterplan”? The song being a mix of traditional Japanese instruments and the choreography being quite maniac
🧨: I think there’s some things to reflect on for the choreography
[Boss laughs]
🧨: Like boss always said before, “Masterplan”.. Before we released it, you said the future’s kind of broken up in frames so it’s not sewn up yet right? So we needed a good time to release “Masterplan”. With “Boom Boom Back” we had a structure in place as BE:FIRST, so to release these three songs (“Boom Boom Back”, “Mainstream”, “Masterplan”) is a miracle. I think it was the answer we were looking for. There were a lot of correct answers, but the road we’ve taken as BE:FIRST and with “Boom Boom Back”, we chose this one to go towards, and the result was “Masterplan”. So when I heard the instrumental for “Masterplan” I was like, “Ah, this is BE:FIRST!”. Whether the music, choreo, or performance, all of it shows this is BE:FIRST. The song shows this off very clearly. Us too, when we’re talking about our performances.. We want to see our own lives, but that’s impossible right?

🌞: That’s the great thing about me being a producer – I get to see everyone’s lives.
ALL: Hahahahahah!
🧨: We all want to as well! But I think I kind of got to experience that from “Masterplan”.
🌞: I really wanted the cherry blossom petals falling as you guys finished and disappeared. It was really last-minute for Tokyo Dome wasn’t it. It turned out super cool!
The boys: Thank you 🙇
🌞: You were all super cool

🌞: I think for me, this album was more an extension of the communication I’ve had with you all, than providing some kind of production. What we’ve talked about together was directly connected to its creation. For instance, 🦁 said he wanted to sing with distortion guitar, and we were suddenly singing “Brave Generation” together.
🦁: Ah, we did~
🌞: That happened a lot.

🌞: What did 🦁think of “Masterplan”?
🦁: It was like BE:FIRST’s “New Chapter”, we also talked about wanting to include traditional Japanese instruments a lot. We teamed with boss and said we have a more solid outline of BE:FIRST after “Mainstream”. Since we all wanted to do this, that kind of became “Masterplan”. It feels like the song for our “Chapter 1”.
🌞: The mission statement for Chapter 1
🦁: Yeah

🌞: I’ve been communicating with all of you a lot recently. I’d sometimes say, “This song isn’t doing so well around here” but we’ve been having a lot of fun.
ALL: Thank you 🙇

🌞: To wrap it up, 🐉 do you have anything you want to do after “Masterplan”?
🐉: Ohh~ This is hard.. Because I’m sure [what I want to do] solo and as a group is different.
🌞: Yes yes
🐉: There are music you can only do as a soloist, the same for groups.
🌞: The persona of a soloist and that of a group is different
🐉: It’s different, but I think I want to go for something old-school.
🌞: Ohh! Really?
🐉: Yes.
🌞: Don’t make me so excited now.
🐉: I think I can totally do something like that.
🌞: Really?
🐉: Yes
🌞: I’m looking forward to this now~
🐉: Because of what we’re doing now is why I think we can pull it off.
🌞: True, there’s a lot we all want to do

Boom Boom Back

🌞: Next is Boom Boom Back!
🦁: BBB
🌞: I think Boom Boom Back was a song that signified the first step BE:FIRST was taking after BE:1. How is it, going from “Slogan”, “Masterplan”, to “Boom Boom Back”. You get in the zone. I think listening to these three songs back to back is really good.

🌞: How is Boom Boom Back for 🧨?
🧨: Like I mentioned when asked about Masterplan… I just talked about it earlier!
[boss laughs], [everyone laughs]
🧨: So like mentioned earlier, “Boom Boom Back” was the first step we took. If “Mainstream” was our first big step, then “Boom Boom Back” was a very important half-step we took. We talked about it between us and with boss, “This is the BE:FIRST we want to show,” and we talked about this overseas right? Even looking back on it now, I think that was really meaningful.
🌞: And we all had somewhere to be after that [boss laughs]
🧨: I think talking to you about it not in Japan but overseas was really significant. We’re glad we got to talk to you about it. Like 🐉said earlier, not just our own personalities, but what the group’s personality will be. In addition to being aware and accepting that, boss got to experience that first-hand. I think it’s a collaboration that can go on forever. I think with “Boom Boom Back” we came to realise there’s a lot of other things we want to do. We started to see, “This kind of hip hop gets us hyped!” with “Boom Boom Back” and we can shout, “We brought a new song with us!”
🌞: Ohhh, I get it! “Brought a new song!!”
🕺: I think for six months 🐨 was shouting “We brought a new song with us!” with “Boom Boom Back” 🤣
[boss laughs]
🐨: I’ve changed it up recently. “Honki dashima~su”
[boss laughs], [everyone laughs]
🌞: “Honki dashimasu” is interesting!
🦁: And it’s the last song too (🐨: I laughed too), so it makes you think, “Then what do the songs before that mean” 😂
[ALL laugh]
🌞: Seeing your performances though, I don’t think any of it is impolite or rude. You’ve got the manners and it comes through…?
🦁, 🐨: Hahahah!
🧨: With “Blissful” too, 🐨’s all “We brought a new song!”
🌞: With that intro?
??: We don’t need it~~!
[boss laughs]
🕺: We should be careful of that!

🌞: After we finished the album, the end you have a BE:FIRST cypher. One of you gets in the middle and the rest of you are like, “Who goes next who goes next”.
[and I think here they talk about how fun it is and maybe they’ll try it out next time?]

🌞: I’m going to pass the next one to J. Talk about “Boom Boom Back” J
🐢: Was I in a white tank top?
🌞: Wasn’t it a white tank top and a fluffy jacket?
🐢: [remembers] Ahh!
🌞: Thank you 🦁, you’re the man!
🦁: I’m 26 after all
[boss laughs]
🐢: I think the concept of the MV, was where we started having a clearer idea of what we wanted to do. It was fun to film it too.
🌞: I think the part where you guys were at the bowling alley, you were all actually bowling [as if you’re not being filmed].
🦁: We did! / 🐢: Ah~ We did!
🦁: We were really into it
🌞: I played a bit but my balls never went a straight line
ALL: It was fun!
🌞: We don’t go bowling a lot (🦁: We don’t). We’ll play a lot more in MVs right?
The boys: Yes! 💪

Guilty

🌞: From here, we’re finally going into…
🐉?: New song zone
🌞: Yes, the new songs. Guilty
🐧: Guilty / 🦁: Guilty~!
🌞: I think I’ve always thought you guys should do a song like “Guilty”
🕺: It’s awesome
🌞: In the beginning, did we expand on it? Did I say anything? I think I met 🐨 the next day and..
🐨: I really liked it
🕺, 🌞: wwww
🐨: I really liked it
🌞: When I copy 🐨 it makes my throat feel super good 🤣
🐨: hahaha~
🌞: Like a stretch

🌞: Now that it’s a song, how is it?
🐨: I think it’s good, and we got vocal directions from not just boss but LOAR-kun too.
🌞: That’s right!
🐨: So there were some different vocalisations we did than before. I think that broadened our horizons. We found some interesting things about each other too, our voices…
🌞: I think voices certainly match certain songs, but 🐨 in Guilty and.. 🦁 too
🦁: I still dunno if that’s the right answer for me 💦
🌞: You dunno?
🦁: Mm. [ 🐢? Starts humming the song] It was the first time I was singing that way, and I haven’t tried it as part of BE:FIRST… for🕺too, I think it was a song with a lot of challenges in that regard… I’m glad if everyone thinks [he sounds good] but I’m still wondering about it…
🌞: It’ll be late then
🦁: So a delay is the correct answer?
🐨: Delayed right answer wwwwww
[boss laughs]
🌞: Well, this album “2:BE” is also about who you want to be.. I think musically the genres are pretty broad. I think 🦁’s “to be” has the most challenges… You’re trying new singing methods, so I think LEO’s “2:BE” stands out the most.
🦁: Me and LOAR-kun… (🌞: wwwww) He comes from baseball too (🐉: So was he like a teacher? www) Yeah, it was going way too well. So he used baseball terms with me (🌞: I see) so he’d say things like “Just throw it at me on the first try” (🐉: Wait really?).
🕺: Even his [vocal] directions?
🦁: Yeah. He’d just say, “swing it swing it”
🐧: Crazy!
🌞: It was quite fun watching this! wwww
🦁: It made it easier to understand for me. Like, I should sing it more powerfully here, so… LOAR-kun and I…
🌞: I get it~
🦁: It’s easy to understand
🌞: I want to have LOAR-kun there when 🦁’s recording now.
🦁: Hahaha~
🌞: He grows passionate by the second you know, LOAR-kun. What’s interesting is -I’ve been with him a lot lately- LOAR-kun’s singing has gotten good too.
🦁: Hahahahah!
🌞: Because he’s been directing you all.
🐢: Everyone’s going in a good direction

🐉: I also got a lot of directions.
🌞: That’s right!
🐉: We stand when we pre-record right, but he’ll stand super close and mutter “juujika juujika juujika” 😂

(Note: “juujika” is the “cross” in Japanese, and one of the lines 🐉 sings in “Guilty”)

🌞: He did yes wwww
🕺: Wouldn’t his voice get into the recording too?
🌞: Yeah, even though it’s 🐉 you might hear a bit of LOAR in there! 🤣 He has a loud voice too. That was “guilty” too.

🌞: When we were recording 🐨’s rap, LOAR’s switch was suddenly on. Before he’d be like “mm mm, good good”, then he’d go “ 🐨! We gotta figure out what’s goin’ on first! SKY-HI you’re listening too right? First, we gotta make the base, then the floor can expand! Go for it 🐨!”
ALL: 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
🐨: It was like that every time www
🌞: And he’d just do this out of the blue. At first, he’d be like, “this is like this, this is like that” but once he’s found the vocal he wants, he’d get really into it and say, “ 🐨, let’s do this”. Once 🐨 does, he’d suddenly get in the zone, and go “Do you get it 🐨?! How does that sound?!”
🦁: Was it my turn before [🐨’s]?
🌞: I think you were after
🦁: AFTER?!
🐢: Wasn’t it me after [🐨]?
🌞: Ah that’s right, it was 🦁 → 🐨 → 🐢
🦁: Then that happened probably because I swung too much
[boss laughs]

🌞: 🕺 and 🧨’s parts took some time right. We made and remade it a few times. How was it for you 🧨?
🧨: Rap can change the mood of the song right, depending on how you use your voice. I had a chance to try it during pre-recording. I had a good week thinking about how to go about it until the final recording.
🌞: True true
🧨: And there’s a part where it got pretty technical.. [starts humming the part]
🌞: Ahh, that was hard wasn’t it
🧨 [hums the part]: At first I kind of followed LOAR-kun’s directions [staccato] but I couldn’t. So finding the right way to go about it was hard. I did find the answer in the end
🌞: It was good it was good
🧨: I kind of relaxed and let go and did it
🌞: I wanted 🕺 and 🧨’s parts to be pretty technical. Of course, having raps in a boy band, skills isn’t the most important, but the technical aspects... For the song and the group's overall attitude, it’s a must. In that regard, 🧨’s part in “Guilty” I definitely gave you something complex to work with.
🧨: I think all [of my parts] was hard
🌞: I think the beginning two were rather simple! www
🧨: Yeah…
[boss laughs]
🧨: It was more like the run before a big jump
[boss laughs]
🌞: It’s kind of in between singing and rapping wasn’t it
🧨: Yeah
🌞: I think everyone in BE:FIRST is good at that in-between of rapping and singing, so I want to let you guys do more of it in the future
🦁, 🐉: OK! 🫡

Sapphire

🌞: Shall we continue? Sapphire
The boys: Sapphire~
🕺: That is the next one?
🌞: Guilty was flirty..
🐉: I like it though
🌞: Really? So you like a pure love song. Sapphire is fun right?
🐉: True~
🐢: I feel like I sang the most for Sapphire 😂
🌞: Oh yeah! 😂
🐢: Poured some emotions into it, kinda song
🐧: Because of the sound I think the vocals really pop
🌞: This would be tiring in a live hey?
[🐢 starts singing the parts, 🐧 harmonises]
🌞: I think 🐧 has gone up haven’t you right?
🐧: This always comes up when we’re doing an album, but it feels like training.
🦁: I get it~ / 🌞: I get it I get it
🌞: You’re doing many things in a short span of time
🐧: You’re trying to sing in different ways for the songs.. Drawing from various approaches, so [your repertoire] increases and gets better..
🐉: I enjoyed the pre-recording a lot this time
🐧: I get that~ / 🦁: I get it I get it
🌞: I got a LINE from 🐉 suddenly.
🐉: Eh?
🌞: It said, “I’m having too much fun with pre-recordings every day”
🐉: I sent that? 😂 But it is fun!

🌞: Can you elaborate on why pre-recording is a lot of fun?
🐉: I think because we’re genreless, I can try singing the way my favorite artists are singing. I think compared to before, I’m trying different ways to end my lines, that was BE:1. But this time I was deciding which method I can use here and there. It’s fun and the time until the recording I’m just going through trial and error and my singing gets better. It’s the bomb.
🌞: I’m happy to hear that. Going back a bit, when BE:FIRST was formed, among other things I was considering, one of it was how none of your voices overlapped. I’ve been thinking about that a lot. And recently, even if I give you guys different things to work with, to 🐉 for instance, it will be 🐉. Same if I give something to 🧨, he can make it 🧨. The strengths in your voices makes it really fun for me. I can consider putting a lot of different members for the top liner and I hope to be able to do more of that in the future.

Note: Top liner is someone who writes the melody and lyrics to a premade beat track

The boys: Looking forward to it~
🌞: In the beginning, I was often thinking, “This line should go to this person” but I’m stretching it out more in “2:BE”. I’m looking forward to the next few works from here on.

🌞: What does 🐢 think, singing this love song?
🐢: Sapphire was hard
🌞: It was hard?
🐢: The beginning where I go “nnnggghhh~”
🌞: What was that? 😂 Are you really JUNON from BE:FIRST? 😂
🐢: And I had a hard time with the ad-lib at the end too
🌞: You did!

🌞: I think for me, it was 🐧’s last… we were in the [recording] booth…
🐧: Which note is good right?
🌞: Yeah~ It was a pythagorea Switch feeling sometimes.. And the melody goes [hums it] often right? So no matter where you go, you still hit it. So we were wondering what to do, [hums it slightly higher] and we passeddd!
🐧: It became that, crossing it over
🌞: Pythagorea Switch feeling was strong~
🐢: It felt really good listening to the music
🌞: I think this overlaps with what I said before, but 🐧 and 🐢’s voices really save the game. When both of you sing, we can hear both of you.
🐉: Like “Gifted.”?
🦁: Ah true! / 🐧: True!
🌞: I want to create more mirages like that! I think this member and this member singing together will be interesting and such. [something about two kinds of albums? Idk 😂]
🐉: In “Blissful” too
🌞: Oh yeah~
🐢: Oh yeah! / 🦁: True!
🌞: I want something new~ Probably a song after the album, maybe!
🦁: Mirage?
🌞: Mirage
🦁: Mirage can be the song name
[The boys got excited because it’s a song that starts with M and continues with the B-M-S-G theme]
🌞: Totally possible~

Smile Again

🌞: Smile Again!
🦁: Ahh~
🐉: Ohhh~
🌞: Smile Again was your first time releasing a love song as a single. Continuing from the last talk, let’s start with 🐢

🐢: This was with Keita-san from w-inds
🌞: And JUNE-kun!
🐢: They directed us on various things. I learned new things along with how to use different singing techniques effectively from both of them. A little before “Smile Again” was finished, I think I gained some new skills.
🌞: I think 🐢 during SA was when you were broadening your singing right. You were thinking of increasing your low[er vocal tones]?
🐢: Yes.
🌞: You have a lot you want to work on with “low” right?
🐢: I think that’s when it started 😂
🦁: Low!
🌞: You’ve been saying you want to sing not just the high parts.
🐢: When I listen back on our recordings, I feel like my voice sounds higher than I think it is. It sounds even higher compared to the live versions. So I’m kind of conscious of that when I record.
🌞: There’s a lot to it. People can sound full in falsetto and people who sound thin (airy?) in falsetto and that’s OK! I think there are charms in both.

🌞: Speaking of voices, in SA the hook 🐨 sings has a different resonance to it I have never heard before. It was really good 👍
🐨: I was really nervous
[boss laughs]
🐨: for SA
🌞: If it’s a long note you get nervous right?
🐨: Yeah
🐨: It’s in the beginning and right after 🐢 and it suddenly gets high…
🌞: Yeah yeah
🐨: That part is really scary
The boys: Yeah! / It’s scary!
The boys: There’s very few notes!
🐨: Ve-ry scary
🌞: I get it~
🐨: For the dome it was like I was getting hit by the lights [not sure of this part, he kinda mumbling it 😩] so it was really scary
[boss laugh, everyone laughs]
🦁: So it was scary
🐨: Yeah, the scariest I’ve–
🌞: That was scary yeah. I get it.
🧨: There were cameras too, so you gotta smile
🌞: I felt bad [giving the part to him] but I wanted you to do it
🐨: No but the more I did it in lives…
🌞: You got used to it?
🐨: I got used to it, and… yeah, I got used to it.
[boss laughs, 🐨 laughs]
🐧??: You had more variations to it
🐨: Yeah yeah
🐧??: Your expressions
🌞: Then the next one you can show us a big smile… 🐉!
🐉: Oh me!?
🐨: Let’s go?
🐧: We take turns with this?
[boss laughs]

Grow Up

🌞: Grow Up!
The boys: Ohhhhhh / 🦁: Ahhh, this one truly!
🌞: I love Grow Up!
🐨: It good 👍
🌞: “Guilty” this guy was a bit of a playboy, then he grew up, had encounters, had breakups, to “Grow Up”. It connects to his growth. What do you think 🦁?
🦁: I open the song for “Grow Up”
🌞: That part is super duper good!
🦁: It gets me super nervous.
🌞: Because there aren’t a lot of notes? 😂
🦁: Not a lot of notes and you sometimes have to move right, in the performance
🌞: Yes yes
🦁: That you sometimes think, “When’s the intro?” I’m scared I’ll miss it
🕺: Ahhhh~ True!
🦁: When I think “this is the time!” I’ll take a breath but I look to my right and everyone’s still crouching down, then they get up “Oh!” and I start.
🌞: Oh really? And recently, because you’re in dome it’s doubled from the original
🦁: And there’s no voice counter
🌞: Voice counter yeah wwww We don’t have it

Note: Voice counter, shortened to "voican" as LEO says it here, is basically a counter that sends to an artist's in-ears and helps them count before their opening line (like "1, 2, 3, 4" something like that)

🦁: Yeah 😂
🌞: Why don’t we?
🦁: Yeah, why?
🐉: Wouldn’t it be good to have it?
🐨: Yeah, right?
[boss laughs]
🦁: But I think it was right to not have [the voice counter]
🌞: What the heck~ 😂 / 🕺, 🐧: You~
🌞: If 🦁 thinks it was the right answer, then it was right
🦁: That’s right~ 😁
[The boys laugh]
🐢: Wasn’t it because if we have the voice counter it’ll mess with our own count?
🦁: Oh! That’s right!
🐢: We might get confused
🦁: Yeah, that must be it. Everyone’s right answer matched with my right answer.
[The boys laugh]
🌞: I’ve been really touched by you guys for a lot of things, but I was really touched by the 360 degree choreo for “Grow Up”
🦁: Ahhh, was it NOPPO-san?
🌞: NOPPO?
🦁: Yeah!
🌞: That was crazy!
🦁: Crazy!

🌞: How was it? Wouldn’t there be a bug?
🕺: It was fine in the beginning, but when we were prepping it for festivals… We could only do a one-sided version
🐢: Ahhh, true true! 😂
🕺: Front-facing version is crazy 😂
🌞: I get it~
🐢: When we were rehearsing for it recently…
🦁: Opposite! www
🐢: Everyone was… I was so confused and didn’t really know what was going on. Everyone was facing the other way (🦁: www) Then I was “?”
🕺: J was opposite www
🐢: I, I didn’t know either way, so I just stood still 🧍
[boss laugh, everyone laughs]
🦁: I’m glad we rehearsed!
🐢: I’m glad we rehearsed! 😂
🐉: J didn’t trust himself to keep going but stood still instead wwwww
🦁: It must’ve been confusing!
🧨: You didn’t trust anyone, including yourself🤨
🌞: That’s a positive and negative making it zero!
The boys: LMAOOOOO
🦁: Zero!
🐉: So funny 🤣

🌞: 🐧’s part was good too
🐉: With “Grow Up”, I thought it’s a new side of BE:FIRST when I first heard it. Once we started singing it, it really became BE:FIRST.
🌞: Mmm mm, I get it~
??: The track is super good!
🌞: Right? Isn’t it good? It’s so good I wanted it to be the lead track
🐉: The laid-back feeling is good
🌞: Yeah yeah
🦁: Grow Up is good!

🌞: Was “Grow Up” my first session with LOAR-kun? 🤔
The boys: Ohhhh~
🌞: Yeah, that must be right. I was also making “SUPER IDOL” at the same time as “Grow Up” though lol
The boys: Eehhhhhh
🐉: It was that long ago?
🌞: Yeah, it was the same time… “Grow Up”, “SUPER IDOL” and…
🐢: SOS?
🌞: SOS, yes.

Note: All three songs mentioned here were produced with LOAR! :)

The boys: Yes! SOS!
🌞: I really didn’t expect LOAR-kun to be so energetic at the time
The boys: 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Us too / We didn’t expect that either
🐉: He just seemed like a super cool older brother
🐨: Me too~
🐧: Yes yes yes
🌞: He’s good-looking too!
🐉: Didn’t we all think the same thing? Or am I representing what everyone thought?
🌞: Maybe it was who he was working with. With BE:FIRST he was a bit more casual, he didn’t need to be too formal.
🦁: Just relax
🌞: Yeah yeah yeah. Like, “I’m looking forward to working with BE:FIRST!” or something, and want everyone to get along.
🐉: That makes me happy

🌞: We also have 🕺’s super spin right?
🦁: Ohhh!
🌞: I think it goes 🐉 → 🕺
🕺: Ahhhh!
🐉: Ahhhh!
🕺: In the center right. It felt like a battle with 🐉 . If 🐉 doesn’t spin / twirl, then I don’t.
🐉: I usually do
🌞: But you know, 🐉 twirling is an image. When I first saw it I was thinking “Oh, he’s spinning real well,” and then he kept going 😂
🐨: Wooohhh~
🐉: Did I keep spinning?
🌞: Yeah, spinning. 🕺’s triple was surprising.
🕺: My jazz history is about 10 years ✨
[boss laughs]
🕺: Ballet, jazz 10 years
🌞: Amazing
🐉: I’ll go to Studio HANA next time
🕺: 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
🐉: Maybe they’ll let me
[boss laughs, everyone laughs]
🕺: Let’s focus on hiphop for now
🐧: Crazy
🌞: Crazy right!?
🐉: I forgot but I’ll remember the name of the move next time

Metamorphose

🌞: So with all of that accumulated… next is Metamorphose
🦁: Oooh! 😮 Here it is! / 🐨: Ah!
🌞: The transformation after the accumulation
🐉: Transformation www after the accumulation?
🌞: Yes, transformation / 🐨??: Fooooo~~~~
🐉: The strings…

🌞: I was writing the intro for this song last night, I quite like this one. [Listen],
A song that can only be expressed by two people who still have essences of adolescence and skill. A transformation and a chapter of this well-portrayed in this well-bloomed work. The song shines not just in the vocal prowess alongside the dramatic orchestra, but also the fullness of their expressions as they sing.

The boys: OHHHH~ / AHHH~ / WOW~
🐉: We’ll go with that, thank you~
🌞: I was quite enjoying it while writing this 😄
🐧: You said it all pretty much
🐉: Yeah definitely
🌞: It’s really good isn’t it?
🕺: Super good
ALL: 96BLACK (Kurobla)
🐉: I like the melody, the “oh, oh oh, oh oh oh-oh”
🐧: Ah, that one?
🐉: I think the lower vocal tone plus the low strings really builds up the mood
🌞: Yuup
🐉: I think in order to answer that in terms of the voice and melody it was hard, and when you look at the lyrics, it’s quite heavy. I really like 🐨’s rap in the second verse
🌞: Right?

🌞: When it comes to BE:FIRST’s songs.. I think of all seven of you, of course, but when there is a member I want to express a song… With “Metamorphose” I did originally make it with the pattern of all seven of you singing it in mind, but like [🐉] said earlier, the strings and heavy bass, the image I had was 🐉 starting off the song. Then, I thought it’ll be interesting if the two of them did it, and it exceeded my imagination.
🐨: Ohh, thank you 🙇
🐉: We’ve talked about this at different times, but it’s like a two-person “Gifted.”

Note: The producers behind "Metamorphose" are the same as "Gifted."!

🌞: Oh~ yes yes! Like that! It’s really like what 🐉 said, 🐨 also updated his [bottom] line. Like even until the final hours of recording, I also had no idea how 🐨 should sing his lines. It was really cool!
🐨: Thank you~

🌞: How is it 🐨?
🐨: E-h!? I think it’s about time for us to come up with a proper name ✨ 😏
The boys: Kurobla kurobla
🐉: 96BLACK is really sick!
🌞: 96BLACK is at the tip of my tongue you know. For one shooting, I said RYUHEI and SHUNTO, but everyone uses 96BLACK right…
🐉: Oh true!
🌞: How about KUROBARA (Black Rose)
🕺??: Black Rose!
🐨: To keep the theme, maybe something like the year 1996 BLACK STREET…
🐧: Ohh~ Like that? / 🦁: I see!!
🐉: BLACK STREET… but the songs are too different
🌞: 😂😂😂😂😂
🐉: We haven’t done a song [under this name] but let’s go with this
[Everyone going “do it do it!” and boss laughs]
🦁: You’re not changing the name but you’ll change the meaning
🌞: I think you can do it, with that name
🐉: “We’re a group focused on the 1990s…”
🌞: Actually no no no~ That’s too narrow!
🐨: 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
🕺: HARD!
[Everyone laughs]
🌞: Too hard!
🦁: You dunno what’s going to happen
🐉: We don’t know but
🕺: You’ll aim for the 1997s too

🌞: With the lyrics though, it was quite a lot for 🐨right. It’s a change, for 🐉 too. Though 🐨’s change the past 1-2 years has been crazy.
🐨: Thank you~
🌞: You still have the essence of what makes you you, as you become who you want to be. I think that’s beautiful
🐨: Thank you! I’ll keep working hard 💪

Genesis

🌞: So that was Metamorphose. What kind of combination was Genesis?
🕺: JRL
🌞: JAS
🕺: JRL
🌞: JSL
🕺: It’s JSL
🧨: Don- We only did one song [as JRL] and you wanna use the name JRL?
🌞: 🤣 This is.. I told you guys this before, but if 🐉 and 🐨 did Metamorphose, and JRL did Genesis.. Then MinorSavage will be no more 😂
🐧, 🕺: wwwww
🌞: But let’s do it one at a time you know, all these different combinations

🌞: With that, Genesis was a ATS-production. Was super interesting!
🦁: It was!
🌞: I wanna involve more directors, people who give [vocal] directions, top liner, and beat makers too. Always updating. The quality unwavering… Even though I think it will be ok to go this far.. I think – and maybe you guys do too – that the more we grow together, the more friends we’ll have. So I want to slowly add more. This is the second time it’s ATS…
The boys: ATS~
🕺: [When I’m] with 🧨 I’m rapping. Since I’m with these two, maybe I should get a stand-mic – is what I thought!
🌞: Me too! In the beginning–
🐉: RnB~
🌞: In the beginning, something winter-y, which true - the intro gives a winter-y vibe
🐉: wwww
🕺: 3 seconds later it’s a whiplash wwww but it was really good
🌞: In hindsight.. I dunno if 🫧 thought about this when making it, if you perform it in a big venue and the lights will make it look really good
🦁: Shochan said it a lot, that he made it thinking of the dome.
🌞: So that’s why! The lighting will make it look really good!
🕺: VLOT-san cranked it up a bit, and we add neon [lights? I assume?] I can imagine a lot of different ways… The lights go here, I’m here, then there is 🦁, and lazers…
🌞: Oh this is good this is good!
🐉: If you have black chains it’ll really make it exciting
🌞: You can do a lot of things with this. The song changes a lot too. You listen to it and then realise, “Eh, only 3 min 30 secs passed?”
🦁: It’s long right? 😂
??: Long
🐢: I didn’t think it was long at first
🦁: I thought it was over 5 minutes long
🌞: I thought it was 5 minutes too, like two songs linked together
🦁, 🐢: Yes
🦁: We made what we thought was best. Then by the time we realised, it was over 5 minutes.. (🌞: Aha! 🤣🤣🤣) So to make people not realise it was like that, it was quite difficult.
🌞: I’m going back to “2:BE 🦁” again (🦁: OK!), your flow was crazy!
🕺: Yeah! / 🧨: Crazy!
🦁: Airuza was all, “ 🦁’s voice is similar to mine, so 🦁 can probably try and get my flow”.. I couldn’t do it at all 💦😭
🌞: No no no, you did it!
🕺: You did it! 😤
🦁: No.. it was the toughest recording I ever had since becoming BE:FIRST, for me personally 🥺
🌞: There wasn’t really a line that was written specifically for you right (🦁: Yeah), so you had to keep trying.
🦁: Yeah, so.. How should I say it? I was.. really getting irritated
🌞: 😂😂😂, 🧨: 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
🌞: Stop it!
The boys: 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
🧨???: Didn’t you say you found the right answer? 😂
🦁: For me!
🌞: For you! OK. So you didn’t find the right answer
🦁: I didn’t find it, so I was thinking, “Then what’s the right answer?”, and then I thought, “Maybe there isn’t a right answer”
🐉: There’s none? Wwww
The boys: 😂😂😂😂😂
🐨: Stop playin’! / The rest: There’s no right answer? 😂
🌞: It’s all correct answers!
🦁: No really… No matter how much I practiced or tried to record, I couldn’t tell if this or that was the right answer… It just seemed like I needed to sing for eternity.
🌞: In the darkness
🦁: In the darkness
🌞: And then finally the right answer…!
🦁: What is it~? 🥺😂
ALL: 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
??: Why the whine
🦁: It was the same during Guilty, everyone says “It was good!” then I think it went well
🌞: It was good! / The boys: It was!
🦁: Because I always wondered if it went well or not
🌞: I think you can go on Killing Verse with that part.
🦁: Oh really? 🥺
🌞: Mm~
🦁??: I’m thankful 🙇🙏
[boss laugh, everyone laughs]

Selfish

🌞:.. Slowly destroying things from “Grow Up” 😂 What happens after destroying everything? Selfish
🐧: Gonna keep destroying
🧨: Snot is dripping out
🐧: The two of us have come–
🧨: Like elementary schoolers…
🌞: I mentioned earlier right? Metamorphose
🐧: I want to hear it, what kind of intro for Selfish
🦁: I want to hear Genesis’s!
🌞: Genesis’s one, was pretty good, like,
“By ATS from THE FIRST as the producer-songwriter with VLOT, a song that’s destructive and space-y. A development you could never imagine that stimulates and utilises the three people rampaging about in a heavy sound.”

The boys: Woooowwww!
🕺: It’s good! It’s super good!
🧨, 🐧: We want we want!
🌞: You want it right?

🌞: The gremlins on and off stage–
🐉: 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
🌞: Enjoy themselves to the fullest on hokuto’s cheery track. It shines as a party tune, the silly yet delightful lyrics (ALL: 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣) on top of the… 🤣🤣🤣🤣
ALL: 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
🧨: Simply put, it was just plain stupid!
ALL: 🤣🤣🤣🤣
🧨: It wasn’t like… / 🐧: It’s true we’re rowdy on and off…
🧨: He (meaning 🐧) was willing to follow me!
🐧: We wrote good stuff! / 🧨: But it was truly stupid!
🐧: I think we wrote really good stuff
🌞: I know the image you were going for (🧨: Yes yes), “Selfish” was the title… and you wanted to do what you liked, go wild.
🐧: It was a spiff of the moment so we didn’t know how to talk about it [Not sure about this]
🧨: If you wanted to look for some meaning there isn’t
??: 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
🌞: But in the end, you know it’s linked to your desire to grow, that’s good
🐧, 🧨: 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
🌞: In the end

🌞: We talk about how the need to get better is important. Yesterday leads to today, today leads to tomorrow, right? Being a better person than you were yesterday is important but realistically there are times when you fail or make silly mistakes – you should sing about those moments too. Being too refined, too clean just isn’t quite right. But www 😂 I think you overdid it wwww😂🤣
🧨: It was awesome
[boss laughs]
🐧: We really did it~
🧨: Yeah, awesome~
🐧: The 2nd verse was hard, just a little
🧨: Because you’re changing the way you sound?
🐧: Yeah, that’s probably it
🌞: It was good!
🐧: Tighten my throat a bit…
🧨: Tighten it..
🐧: I probably did it like that.
🧨: Because that’s how I did [my lines], so when we’re both like that we need to suddenly switch. So it’s like if you don’t tighten it… [really not sure about this either]
🌞: Yeah, there were many moments with🧨 where I was like, “That was a super good take! Remember that!” When it was 🐧 it’s completely different 😂 Which is fine, but let’s listen back~ “Wow, it’s different!”
🐧: Completely different
🌞: As a result it’s a really good 2 min 30 sec song.
🐧: I’m glad it took shape
🧨: Yeah I’m glad
🐧: The “We did it as we liked” mood was quite strong
🌞: That’s true, it was!
🐧: The lyrics too [to 🧨:] we did it in one day
🧨: Mm mm! It was fun! Like the growth in the latter half… If we don’t improve it’ll be the end 😂
🌞: I wouldn’t let that–!
🧨: There’s a bit of something there
🌞: Yeah yeah!
🧨: It’s a good essence

Bump Around

🌞: Bump Around!
The boys: Bump Around!
🌞: Like Selfish, in Bump Around 🧨 comes in at the beginning. Dokan!
🐉: He leaves really quickly though
🧨: I opened the door then quickly closed it again 😂
🌞: When I was recording the demo for Bump Around it was really fun. 🧨 starting at the beginning…
🧨: It felt like a mic relay
🌞: Mm mmm mmm!
🧨: I kick off the song, I have some tea and then come back when the song ends 🤣
[boss laughs]
🌞: That’s true! I feel like you’d suit a huge part like that.
🐧: It felt like we all had a role… Like I was the main person for the hook
🌞: Yes yes yes
🦁: Then me and 🐢 too right? Us two..
🐢: Our back-and-forth?
🌞: That was my “2:BE 🦁” and “2:BE 🐢” 😄
🦁: I think there’s a lot of “2:BE” [for me]!
🌞: 🦁’s case…
🐧: You embody it
🌞: Yeah yeah yeah
🦁: Ohh~ 😮
🌞: Your singing embodies [2:BE] the most
🦁: Really? 🥺
🌞: I think for people that have known 🦁 for a long time, they’d be the most surprised
🦁: Ehh~ / The boys: mm mm~

🌞: How about 🐢?
🐢: Sssss…
🌞: How was it for 🐢when you were doing a song like Bump Around?
🐢: It was really fun! Like I can just simply do it
🌞: Really?
🐢: Yeah, in contrast
🌞: When you guys do a fan meeting again, there’d be shuffle [units] right
The boys: Ahh~
🐢: Partial shuffle?
🌞: Partial shuffle
🐢: I wanna do it!
🦁: I think Softly team doing Spin! would be interesting
🌞: Yeah yeah yeah~ Part shuffle…
🕺: We’re one person short for Softly www
🦁: Then I can stay on Softly
🕺: Just you?
🐨: You can split my verse up and kind of do it right?
The boys: Ahh, true~
🐨: 1st, 2nd..
🌞: I thought we can do fun things like that while we can
??: It’ll be fun
🌞: It will be fun!

🌞: The other thing I wanted to know was - like 🐧 in Bump Around- 🐨 in Mainstream… With this kind of hook, your voice needs to sound different and you might not like that as you dance and I didn’t want that. So “If I give this hook to this person…” is what I often do. Hook is often the iconic part of the song so we prioritise that, but I think the verse is more fun to sing right. So I feel bad taking that fun part away from you guys… but what do you think 🐧?
🐧: All that said, isn’t it like that for 🐨 in Milli-Billi?
🌞: That’s right, because of 🐨’s voice I tend to do that
🐧: True
🌞: So I feel bad.. So I…
🐧: You want to give him the good parts, because of his voice
🌞: For hoo–
🐧[to 🐨]: You only have your voice to blame; what you’re born with
🌞: But with Slogan and Masterplan, I’ve been conscious of putting [members] different parts… So 🐧’s might be coming 😆 a 🐨 hook

Hush-Hush

🌞: The next one is Hush-Hush
The boys: Ohh!
🐧, 🦁: Hush-Hush?
🌞: It’s a pretty big album
🦁: Hush-Hush
🐧: In the album, Hush-Hush?
🌞: Yep, it’s in there.

🌞: Hush-Hush… was released before the album.. We only released it recently right?
🦁: That’s true!
🌞: Let’s continue to keep the focus on 🐧. That was fun right?
🐧: It was, super!
🌞: Yeah!
🐧: Also very disciplined (🌞: Yeah!), everyone involved…
🌞: ATEEZ’s producer (🐧: Yes), Eden (🐧: Eden) is kind of like what I am to BE:FIRST. With lives and such, like a total producing position. We’re about the same generation. Then ATEEZ’s Hongjoong was a trainee, his background is similar [to me]. So I formed a bond with him and Eden (The boys: Aaah~). I love them. So there was Eden, the KR producers that came and we made the song at Chaki’s. I got 🐧to come too.. I felt like I invited you into the tiger’s den 😂
🐧: It really felt like that 😅
[boss laughs]
🐧: I didn’t know when I should say something. They also had in mind what they wanted the song to be. But I think we talked about it before that. ATEEZ and us both have respect and manners for hiphop. So we focused on something that could get people dancing and Chaki-san made it starting from “Gotta go gotta wake up”
🌞: The “Gotta go gotta wake up” was definitely ATEEZ manner right?
🐧: Yeah
🌞: I think everyone wanted to make something good, so if you said “Stop” they would and they would listen. I think as we did it you got closer [with them].

🌞: You guys want to go to a lot of places right? Sessions or in between your gigs... Ah! Let’s hear what you guys thought of LA too, since we’re on Hush-Hush
🌞: How was the LA live 🧨?
🧨: I think we’re really grateful for ATEEZ for the live in LA. At the same time, it was also our first live in LA at the BMO Stadium. Just thinking about the audience and capacity to get all those together, how hard they must’ve worked to do that. If there is such an opportunity, we’re confident that we can convey the best of BE:FIRST’s music and performance.. But that chance…
🌞: You don’t get those chances.
🧨: We don’t, so in that situation ATEEZ welcomed us. Through the years, we’ve learned to give it our best when we’re away and at festivals, how to deliver our music and performance to people who aren’t BESTYs, how to really grab them, how to share and empathsize. We’ve been able to experiment, trial and error, that I think everything we’ve done in the past few years came to fruition in LA. The reactions to us, the cheers was well received, it didn’t feel inorganic.
🌞: ATINYs were cheering loudly. I got a little teary-eyed hearing their cheers, you know.
🦁: I was really overwhelmed too
🌞: The second day.. Thanks to the rumours of the first day, when the word “BE:FIRST” appeared on the screen the second day, the cheers were already amazing!
The boys: Ohhh~
🌞: It really made me happy… With sincerity. With sincerity in music, sincerity in performance… Really, we can only continue putting in our best efforts and doing our best, with humility and honesty. But I think we can work hard to create more opportunities, let’s do our best together 💪
🦁: Yes! 🔥

BE:0 -interlude-

🌞: The next is "BE:0"!
The boys: Interlude
🌞: The interlude
??: It’s come!
🌞:
It is absolutely necessary to know where you come from in order to prove where you’re going. A definite hometown even for those who were born and raised differently. It’s a big narrative and history that has been ongoing since before the birth of BE:FIRST, such is BE:0.

🐉: The interlude was like I was in a dream for me
🌞: It was a dream?
🐧: Right? Like a dream!
🦁: I hope I didn’t say something I shouldn't've so I was nervous
🌞: Something you shouldn't've..
🐧: It would’ve been cut right?
🐨??: You can hear 🦁 clearly
🦁: Yeah, that’s why I’m reflecting 💦
🌞: 🦁’s voice really strikes through you know
🦁: Baseball club… 💦
🐧: Plus the volume
🌞: Yeah yeah
🦁: True…wwww
🐧: It’s actually crazy!
🦁: Dangerous 💦 / 🌞: Voice, obviously, but once the volume is lowered it sounds soft right, but [you can hear] 🦁 until the very end
🌞: I was reducing the sound quality you know, but no matter how much I dropped and dropped, 🦁['s voice] was there till the very end
🦁: That means my voice stood out right
🌞: Yes it stood out, for sure.
🌞: I want to know more about how -interlude- is like a dream for 🐉
🐉: I listen to other artist’s [who have tracks similar to] interlude. Just listening to their voice, even though I don’t understand what they’re saying in English, feels very cool
🦁??: I get it~
🐉: They’re probably talking about the story behind it..? If it was a love song and then comes the interlude, maybe they’re talking about how this is a lover’s quarrel.
🌞: And the phone rings, bbrrrrrrr brrrr brrrr! [boss laughs]
🐉: I really like that. It makes the story rich. Not just a break but the interlude plays a very important role in supporting the rest of the story. So I was happy
🌞: I’m glad, [though it’s also because] the next track is Glorious. To reach “Glorious”... While the song was the theme song for the All Japan High School Soccer Tournament, for the album I wanted this to be a song about the story of you guys too. To assist with this, to support your story, I put BE:0 in there.

🌞: I haven’t heard 🕺 in a while, let’s have 🕺wrap it up before we go into Glorious!
🕺: I think 🐉said all that needed to be said about BE:0 though
ALL: 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
🦁: Then you can do Glorious!
🐧: Glorious!
🌞: Then let’s do that? Glorious is coming up fast, be prepared!
The boys: wwww

Glorious

🌞: Den den banngg “Glorious”!
The boys: Glorious
🌞: The album has many different sounds, right. Many different stories, and finally reaches Glorious. An emotional moment, how was it 🕺?
The boys: wwww / 🕺: Wait, you’re really asking me!
???: I wanna know!
🕺: When you’re in your teens, you’re full of frustrations right (🌞: Mm mm) and you want to be an adult. I feel like it’s a song that can reach a wide range of people – high schoolers.. Because it’s a song written on youth, I don’t think there’s a lot of people out there who didn’t go through that. Even if you take out the soccer, it’s a song that hits you. It might make you feel nostalgic [about youth] or experience it in real-time. I think as we continue to update ourselves, it’s a song that will reach more people and find the song relateable as we go on… Is what I think after listening through the album
The boys: 👏👏👏👏👏👏 / 🐉: How was that [commentary] 🦁-san 🦁-san
🕺: I’m right aren’t I?
The boys: 👏👏👏👏👏👏
🌞: Even the intro script for this says, “Magnificent lyrics…” [soudai na]
The boys: It’s 🕺!
🕺: It’s me! My lyrics!
🌞: You wrote it…
🕺: My lyrics
🌞: What does 🦁 think?
??: What he thinks of 🕺’s lyrics?
🦁: The people who accepted the lyrics…
ALL: 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
🦁: I wrote it anticipating this so I think they’re right in what they are singing 🤣
🐧: It was right!
🕺: The right answer came! 👉
🐧: I think we’ve said “right answer” three times today
🌞: 🐢 and 🐧wrote the top liner so they were in the studio.. And 🦁came to my house twice right?
🦁: I did! Had a birthday in between [the two visits]
🌞: In between birthdays, yes.
🐧: I remember!
🌞: You grew a little bit, towards the end
The boys: wwww
🦁: My growth spurt has pretty much ended 😂
🕺: Pretty much? / The boys: That means there’s a bit more?
🌞: Still a little bit left?
🦁: Yes, a bit, singing wise 😂
🌞: Of course!
The boys: Uwooahhhhhh!! / Kuuuuu!
ALL: Right answer!
🌞: Right on the mark!

🌞: It was quite fun. It was my first time making a song that way.
🦁: Me too, I haven’t really faced someone like that.. Like, what was boss thinking when writing that, or because it’s this kind of song - this kind of theme or these kind of words don’t really suit - I learned a lot. It was a good opportunity. In baseball, there were a lot of times when I was down, I’m glad I was able to write this after taking a day to walk to school in my hometown.
🌞: I think it’s good you did that 🦁 (🦁: Yeah). You didn’t just take care of the subject matter or the story, but you also made them for yourself. Prepared the backbone of the story. It’s great isn’t it? Making things.
🦁: Thank you~
🌞: It was really fun, doing it. Clear yes and no’s, in 🦁’s case
🦁: wwww Really?
🌞: “How was this one?”, “It’s super good, super good!”, and then “You’ll do it at dome”, “Noooo, don’t want! / IYYAAADAAAAHHHH”
🦁: 😂 I didn’t say that! 😂
The boys: Oh you’re really clear about that~
🦁: It’s really stupid! Saying “iiyyaaaaddaaa~”
🌞: “It’s super good, super good!”, then “Right right, you’re right that’s definitely better”... “IIYYAAAADAAAAHHHH”
🐧: Ehhh?
??: You really didn’t want it huh
🦁: The way you said the “iyada” is very child-like 💦
🌞: I exaggerated a little bit, but that was the feeling
🦁: Ah…
🌞: “Ah”, so you’re OK about it? 😂
🦁: I was wondering how it went…
🌞: Ppffttt [boss laughs]
🦁: “IYAADAHH~”.. But boss saw me like that so I guess…
[boss laughs]
??: Still looking for the right answer is it? 🤣

Blissful

🌞: After Glorious (??: Yes!), it’s a song of blessing!
??: Wowwwww~
The boys: 👏👏👏👏👏 / 🌞: Blissful!
🦁: A cool title again…
🐧: A title here…
🦁: Awesome right? / 🐧: At the end…
🌞: But that’s pretty much what we’ve been making, you know? Because it’s now, we did Mainstream.. Then it was Masterplan… The timing of Blissful was something only those who have finished Tokyo Dome can sing. I thought it was one or the other. Maybe it should come in the first one or two songs? Or it could only come at the end, but then maybe the story wouldn’t work. Then I thought it would only work [placed] in the end. And so, the last track of the album – Blissful. How is it?.... How is it?
🦁: We can talk about the production day?
🌞: Shall we hear from 🦁 again?
🦁: The [YMB] Glamping that’s up on YouTube. There was a huge traffic jam and I got really inspired…
🐧: Yeah, you were!
🦁: At the time, we were in talks about whether this will be the lead song or not… 🕺and 🐨as the focus and I started talking about it with them. Then as we listened to WANRIMA, more talks were had…
🐢: Your memory’s insane
🦁: www Well my memory goes back–
🐧: Talking like it just happened today
🐢: You even remember where you sat [on the travel van]
🌞: It’s the story of the road to get here right? Starting from waking up 😂
🦁: We opened Google Map a lot, while in the traffic jam – will it be shorter this way, or longer that way…
🕺: Our convo during the traffic jam www
🐨: Arrival time 😂
🦁: Well, it’s important to have a build up!
🌞: I think it’s unnecessary details that prolong the time though! 😂 It’s a little different?
🦁: That’s right! ✨
ALL: 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
🦁: But yeah, I started talking about it with 🕺and 🐨 and they thought it was good and then everyone else also said, “How about this too?”, I remember that. I wanna hear what 🐨 thought at the time [imitating boss]
🐨: www Eh-he? My thoughts?
🌞, 🦁: Thoughts
🐨: At the time? I think by the time I realised, we were talking about the kind of songs we wanna do as a group.
🌞: You’re having those conversations more too
🐨: Yeah, a lot.
🌞: You’re listening to music all the time, you’re listening to old songs too, so when one of you comes to me saying “We / I want to do this kind of song”, it’s not irrelevant. Something will absolutely come to be and will make sense as BE:FIRST from those discussions. For sure. We have that trust with each other, so I look forward to it too.

🌞: As the last person, how was Blissful 🕺? The tune for this is a dancing tune too.
🕺: It is. I think it’s another way to assert [ourselves] in this span of time. Masterplan was a sense of our stance. We also thought that, the longer the time, the more value it will accumulate. With Boom Boom Back.. Hiphop is a genre we play with and as we were doing that, thinking about how to make the most of it, we thought of pop. In Japan, I feel like daring to do more than pop music… You’re more pop than RnB, more pop than hiphop, but I can see the value in being seen as pop music in general. Like a distinction? It’s true that pop music has lyrics that are easy to understand, it’s easy to perform, and have a strong relatability… but it’s not hiphop, it’s not RnB.. and.. Actually sounds reggae a bit?
🌞: It’s important to present our background – what we’ve digested – in our pop music
🕺: That’s right. We had great expectations that people will find us, including BESTY, because we’ve done Mainstream, Boom Boom Back.. And well, we focus on hiphop… I’m familiar with it, but since BE:FIRST is doing it – I think I’ll give it a proper listen. I don’t think it will be taken lightly, and at this point in time we thought we’ll give this kind of music a shot. At the time, even if you played party tunes, summer tunes, or overseas music… There weren’t many people who were into what was popular, it was very popular with dancers though.
🌞: Yeah for the general public.. There is mustard, there is carrot, then there’s clear wrap [not sure about this??]. It took a while with the masses didn’t it, quite a long time!
🕺: Yeah, and I think we can finally say we’ve made it there too. And it’s summer. There’s a lot we wanted to do…
🌞: That’s right and it is very summer-y
🕺: It is summer-y! It’s about the flow. Coming after pops like Smile Again and Bye-Good-Bye.. I think a lot of people pull it off with this quality and this flow. It’s something I see a lot, that’s why we chose this, given the timing.
🌞: Listening to music… where your “value zone” is the same as everyone else.. That’s what’s nice about being a high school student right.
🕺: Yeah
🌞: It’d be nice if music reaches them

🌞: I feel like I made 30 different hooks for Blissful
🕺: It was that last one right, that boss really… We just threw ideas at each other (🌞: Throw throw throw!) then after boss digested all that, was the hook
🌞: I think 29 different throws. It was kind of hazy, so I had a lot of hands 😂 But I thought I’ll send some through anyway

🌞: The last part with the harmony was where I thought, “Ah! This is it!”. Felt like I really went out to the countryside, it felt really good
🦁??: Boss went to the countryside?
🌞: It’s good right, with the Internet
🦁: I think we sent something about arriving at the hotel…
🌞: Even though we’re all scattered around the world (🦁: wwww), we can still talk about getting to the hotel and stuff
🕺: True
🕺, 🐢? [to 🦁]: You remember way too much!
🦁: Thank yew ✨

🌞: What about Ryuchan? You look like you want to say something
🐉: Oh, did I look like I wanted to talkasdf right nowew;lk [he started mumbling his words]
🕺: I’m quite into 2010s,
🌞: Yeah, the 2014-5s right.
🕺: Wait, how old are we talking?
🦁: Born which 2010s…?
🌞: 10 right?
🐉: I’m ‘06
🕺: So you were four?! Elementary schooler… Before that even.
🐉: Yeah
🕺: Everyone was doing "side candy" at that age
[boss laughs]
🐉: I danced to it a lot in recitals
🦁: Oh really? Amazing! / ??: Is that right~
🐉: So that’s what I did and..
??: Eleven flow [by LMFAO]
🐉: And Chris Brown…
🌞: Chris Brown… It’s like you’ve spent a lot of time on different things during that time. Hip hop like Busta Rhymes and Tyga, and their album…
🐧???: Ohh that was super good
🐉: I could do anything which also meant I spent forever on it
🌞: Chris Brown is kinda mischievous… Well, maybe too mischievous. Michael [Jackson] too, did RnB and hiphop. Truly liked it and it became their art, like a one-person boy band 🤣 [??]
🕺: True, and AAA. People that don’t know Chris Brown listens to that, it’ll be pop. Chris Brown is ingrained in hiphop… Blissful has that kind of feeling…

Mainstream

🌞: Blissful was about blessing and reaching a goal. We got to this big theme.. The album ends! But then about 7 seconds of silence, then den den den.. Mainstream
??: Wahh!
🦁: Stylish!
🌞: With Mainstream’s intro it kind of makes you wanna move like this
🌞: Another song, it’s awesome! It’s actually been about a year since producing Mainstream…
🦁: That’s true!
🌞: I think it’s ready to shine again
??: A good song!
🐉: I quite like the atmosphere on the stage when we do Mainstream. The robotic feeling actually makes it look real good
🐨: I get it
🐉: Compared to other songs, it’s very quiet. The lights matching with the notes I really like too.
🌞: You don’t want to have too much colors with this, just the white lights. Gives very “Tokyo” and “concrete” vibes
🕺: We started this with a lot of passion, and it matches with BE:FIRST doesn’t it? Passion and BE:FIRST [something about Mainstream here] How we drop the notes…
The boys: Thank you~
🌞: Blissful is kind of like that too isn’t it? You’re not showing your roots, but you’re properly borrowing from what people were listening to in 2023-2024, their RnB, their Pops, and what’s the coolest thing after we have made it our own and digested it?
🕺, 🐨: It’s like our representative song
🌞: And video. I felt like everyone, not just us but Sakai-san (Dr. R) too, we all resonated / harmonized when we could see something big was going to happen
🦁: It’s like we all looked in the same direction…
🌞: Yes, it did.

🌞: What do you think, 🐨?
🐨: I think it was exactly that
[boss laughs, the boys laugh, 🐉: Oi oi~]
🐨: It is what you guys said… You all have said a lot so I’m not sure what to say now…
[boss laughs]
🐨: I think we upped our aura. I think the song’s aura really shines. A very important [song] for BE:FIRST

🌞: You’ll do a lot more songs, and even in your BE:1 you have Shining One, so there are a lot of representative songs. I’m glad there are people who are saying 2:BE has songs that represent BE:FIRST too
The boys: Thank you~
🌞: After the first [album], the second one gets harder right. The first one had a lot of awards and reviews too. We’re really busy right now too. Why? Because it’s gotta be now 😂 You’re headed in a good direction and working hard, so let’s do it now. It’s very you and BMSG and you’re doing everything that you can do right now. Thank you!
The boys: Thank you!
🌞: I’m proud of you guys

🌞: Who is going to do the closing? A rep?
[The boys do two rounds of rock-paper-scissors]
🐨: LEO-MANATO
[🦁 and 🐧 rock-paper-scissors]
🐧: It’s me!
🐨, 🌞: UWeeeyyy~
🌞: Then 🐧!
🐧: Summing it up? That’s hard!
🌞: We’ve talked a lot about this album, 2:BE! But what kind of album is it?
🐧: Yeahh, what kind of album is it~
🌞: Yeah, or you can talk about how it was like making it
🐧: I think there were a lot of different memories, environments, and people involved.. And what kind of people are BE:FIRST and how do they express themselves, is how 2:BE was completed. In terms of technicalities or skills, like we said earlier, there are parts where we got better. There are things we’ve carried on from BE:1 that are here in 2:BE and to be who we want to be, we got to love ourselves first. I think we showed that off as artists and in 2:BE. More people will listen to it [when the album is physically released] so I hope it presents itself clearly as you listen. We look forward to everyone’s reactions and thoughts.
🌞: Me too! See you in the album [??]. Thank you~
The boys: Thank you!

Hope you enjoyed!
