Summary of the interview TAIKI and SOTA had in the ar HOMME vol. 2 magazine

FIRST IMPRESSIONS AND NOW

- TaiTai thought SOTA was a genius when he first met him, “No matter how much I work, I won’t win against him!” (Sota: No no~ lol). He knows SOTA was a strong dancer and has a lot of world championships under his belt, but seeing him perform in the audition he was shocked at how good SOTA’s singing and rap was.
- SOTA felt a sense of fascination and wonder seeing TaiTai at the auditions. TAIKI was already so good and skilled at rap and dance, moreover, he was 14 but already had the manners and ways of an adult that he wondered what kind of life TaiTai has had.
- TaiTai is happy to get so much praise from SOTA because he considers SOTA his dance teacher and a very kind senpai (SOTA: Nah~ I’m not kind at all lol. You’re the one that’s kind to me haha)
- Each time SOTA sees TAIKI he can tell that TaiTai has been working very hard.

BUMPING INTO EACH OTHER AFTER THE FIRST

- Souchin and TaiTai bumped into each other after THE FIRST. Souchin recognized TaiTai right away because of his aura (TaiTai: Stoppp ///). He thought he would never meet TaiTai again after the auditions because TaiTai was still in middle school [and he was going to debut]. He was really happy to see TaiTai again.
- Taiki was one of the few people in THE FIRST that Souchin didn’t have to teach dance to so he just thought TaiTai as “the kid who can dance well even if I didn’t teach / tell him anything”.
- TaiTai grew in confidence after being told by Souchin he’s a good dancer. He was able to just let go when he danced in the studio. He thinks he’s able to give off a “Look at me! 😤” attitude when he dances thanks to SOTA. (SOTA: A very important feeling!) (TaiTai shy after being complimented so much)
- Souchin will give dance lessons to the trainees once every 1-2 months

WHEN TAITAI JOINED BMSG (April 8, 2022)

When TaiTai was announced as being part of the family, all of BE:FIRST felt a good sense of danger and rivalry. If they do things normally, they’d be overtaken easily by a group that TAIKI’s in. So BE:FIRST decided they gotta give it their all and get ahead so that they don’t get overtaken by their future kouhais in BMSG.

WORDS FROM SKY-HI

TaiTai knew that one of the many reasons he was eliminated in THE FIRST was his age, the way he’d tune out others when he’s nervous and instead focusing on himself, and his [lack of] life experience at the time (he lists word for word what SKY-HI told him to do: Get into fights, go on dates / have a relationship, hang out with friends, study in school, etc). At the time of THE FIRST, he was often very caught up in his emotions and couldn’t get a good grasp of others around him. Looking back on it now, he understands what SKY-HI was telling him. He has since been more conscious of how others are feeling; balancing me-time and time with friends; listening to others; and to act and do things with people’s feelings in mind – he feels he has changed

SOTA has said this many times, but there were a lot of moments during the audition where he thought SKY-HI was truly kind. SKY-HI often asked each of them, “How you doing? You feeling OK?”, “If something’s up let me know alright?”, but when it came to Souchin, SKY-HI said, “Looks like you’re doing fine!” For Souchin, he feels – on the one hand – do I look like I’m fine? LOL, but on the other, he feels like he is being relied on. It wasn’t like THE FIRST was easy for him, but Souchin wonders if it was because he was trying to stay calm and take everything that happens in stride and it showed, LOL. THE FIRST was and is the first and only audition he went for to become an artist, rather than being overwhelmed by his feelings or driving himself into a corner, he wanted to enjoy the challenge the audition brings. Knowing that this showed in his practices and training everyday to boss, it made Souchin really happy and it’s because SKY-HI said that to him he could continue to perform in ways that was himself until the very end.

DIFFERENT PATHS BUT STILL MOTIVATING EACH OTHER

When TaiTai saw them all again for THE FIRST Final Screening, he was very moved by their performances and they had all powered up from when he last saw them in the auditions. It motivated him to work harder (SOTA: I’m glad I did my best! Thank you! TAIKI: Why are you talking like I’m the senpai 😂) When he became a part of the family and were closer to BE:FIRST, he wondered what kind of group BE:FIRST would be. He thinks BE:FIRST is a group that does things out of his expectations, and there is no other group like them. They have all grown individually since THE FIRST. SOTA has gotten even better with singing and dancing, so TaiTai doesn’t want to lose to him as he cheers them on.

- Whenever SOTA sees TaiTai he thinks it’s not fair that TaiTai hasn’t even debuted yet and has this much skill and talent. He is more anxious than motivated whenever he looks at the Trainees performances. He feels like he can’t let loose for one minute, and is glad for the environment BMSG provides, where artists and trainees can motivate and stimulate each other to be better and grow together.
- Since SOTA gives lessons to Trainees, he can feel their growth and speed of improvement closely. He looks forward to how all of them will look like when they debut.
- SOTA mentions that whenever they meet (for lessons) TaiTai always goes to him with a lot of questions and he can sense TaiTai’s enthusiasm and love for dance. Sometimes he’ll also talk to SOTA about dance too, he thinks TaiTai will only continue to improve

TaiTai respects SOTA the most in dance and thinks he is really good. He’ll continue to absorb and learn and work hard! SOTA has said TaiTai is a hard worker, but TaiTai thinks SOTA is too.

SOTA is the type to work hard even if he has no sense [in dance], but he had a time where he thought no matter how hard he worked he can’t keep up, so he thinks TaiTai is working hard and getting better by the day. It makes SOTA feel that his hard work has meaning. It’s why the Trainees have his full support.
SOTA is still learning about himself, teaching BMSG kouhais dance now that he’s in a position where he is an “artist dancer” [a phrase he came up with for himself], but he hopes kouhais like TAIKI can carry on his essences.

THEIR GOALS FROM HERE

SOTA wants to prove that there is no difference between enjoying music with your eyes or with your ears. It’s one of the reasons he wanted to become an artist. The bare minimum is [making] a dance that respects and matches the music, but as long as he has a mic in his hand and sings, he thinks there’s something special when you use dance to present music on top of that. Recently, he’s sure about this thought again, that it’s no different – the music he is performing when he is singing and when he is dancing. He hopes for a future where what he sings and what he dances to is enjoyable in the same way visually and audibly.

TaiTai has been rapping since he was small and he always writes his own raps for MC battles and is very confident and proud about that. He thinks a lot of artists learn to rap by having artists teach them, he wants to show everyone that this is what happens when someone who has built their own rap game joins a group. He thinks a lot of artists in KR do this, but there isn’t a lot of that in Japan, so he wants to be an artist like that in Japan. And exceed BE:FIRST! (SOTA: If it’s TAIKI, you can do it, I’ll support you!)

Hope you enjoyed!
